Hey guys. I've been hunting with a weatherby vanguard s2 kryptec stock 30/06 for years but I hated not having a detachable mag so I put in one of those plastic legacy detachable mags and hated it. Would never fasten in properly.
Anyways I got so pissed off with it I bought a stainless Xbolt. The Xbolt stock to me feels like junk and the mag pops out after firing sometimes (tried a new mag and torq specs are good on everything)
The action is alot smoother on the browning but it's not as accurate as the weatherby. I need to sell one because funds are short since I lost my job and was wondering if anyone can maybe recommend a budget stock that might make the xbolt feel better than a plastic toy?

Bell and Carlson. Or sell both and buy a model 70.

Do you still have the Vanguard?

Watherby sells these things: https://weatherby.com/store/detachable-box-magazine-kit/ This is the cheap option, as it would be $129 at Prophet Arms. The Vanguard is a Howa 1500 barrelled action. Good and accurate, if a bit rough around the edges.

Alternatively to change the stock on the X-Bolt, Boyds, McMillan and a few others make tons of offerings for it.

Yes sir I still have it. Thank you very much for the info AB3006 I certainly appreciate it.
I think that it is the same mag conversion that I have though. I will look into the boyds or mcmillan.

Honestly I don't think I've heard anyone complain about the xbolt mags before, except for the material they are made from. I've had several although they were all wood stocks and the magazines were a favorite of mine compared to many others. Slick to load shells and put into the rifle. Unfortunately I usually found a more accurate rifle and they were sold off. To me if you are unhappy with aspects of each rifle, I'd be getting rid of both and finding something I would be happy with. Check out Bergara rifles as well, known for quality barrels and some models include the detachable magazine kit with the gun.

Keep an eye out for a xbolt hunter (wood) take off stock. Ive seen a few for sale on GP around the $300 price range.

I’ve own d a few x bolt SS stalkers and never had any issues with mags dropping out.
And the new dura touch stock is way better than most factory stocks I’ve had

Also had a model 70 with maple stock, it was pretty but it was a tank

Currently shooting a Winchester XPR , 19 inch barrel, wood stock. Weighs about 7 lbs and shoots sub moa groups.

I'd sell them both and buy a T3.
