Vanguard or xbolt

You can buy a metal detachable magazine kit that fits the Vanguard.
Several make them for the LA.
They use AISC magazines.
Waters out of Australia is easy to get, fits great and isn't to badly priced (landed costs), note: one of mine took some fitting for ease of magazine insertion but they both fit the stock nice. His uses a 3.56" magazine length.
Atlas works also offers one but I don't have it yet, they use the 3.715" mag length so 3 round mags are available in that version.

Hey guys. I've been hunting with a weatherby vanguard s2 kryptec stock 30/06 for years but I hated not having a detachable mag so I put in one of those plastic legacy detachable mags and hated it. Would never fasten in properly.
Anyways I got so pissed off with it I bought a stainless Xbolt. The Xbolt stock to me feels like junk and the mag pops out after firing sometimes (tried a new mag and torq specs are good on everything)
The action is alot smoother on the browning but it's not as accurate as the weatherby. I need to sell one because funds are short since I lost my job and was wondering if anyone can maybe recommend a budget stock that might make the xbolt feel better than a plastic toy?
I'm assuming the Xbolt is a basic stainless stalker. It's a decent gun for it's price as are all guns. I have never experienced issues with the magazine on an Xbolt that were not my fault. They don't to my experience catch on fabric and drop out. Not that it couldn't happen but not by my experience. They typically feed beautifully, have the ability to open the bolt when in safety, I love that feature, and the trigger has no creep IMO. The only modifications I make to mine are installing a MCARBO trigger spring to allow me to get them to around 2lbs. Your desire for a different stock could be the key for that rifle. The higher value stocks/rifles may be bedded better from the factory. That can make a significant difference in it's performance on target. This is my old Xbolt 270WSM stainless stalker long range. Carbon fiber stock. Still drives tacks when my buddies shoot it.
And me on a good day lol.

Get rid of both and get a Tikka or a Ruger that is AI mag compatible.
Personally I like the Vanguard, and I’ve never owned an X Bolt but I don’t think they’re bad (nobody I know with one has ever complained) and the Tikka’s are definable a viable option.
I consider all of them good guns even if I’ve only owned 2 out of 3 (multiple times).
They all have their downsides once you get picky…all of the plastic stocks are just that, plastic…the popular DM kits for the Vanguard are all plastic…my preference is a two stage trigger so the Tikka great single stage trigger isn’t my choice and it’s stock is the most plastic of the bunch and the Browning’s look has just never inspired me (not sure why).
Upgrading anything on them them is easy for a Tikka or Vanguard, not so much for the Browning.
But the Ruger…that’s a hard no.
I have a short action AI American and while only one thing by design couldn’t be fixed (rear action bolt under the mag catch) every other function shy of the barrel demanded attention, some were required just to get basic functionality…looks good but that was about it. By the time everything was addressed I spent enough to buy most mainstream options that were far more premium…zero value in that gun and wish I never bought it.

Tikka are available in a wood stock with the hunter option.

Next time, try to throughly observe and handle a firearm prior to purchasing it. Assure yourself it adjoins to the criteria in your pursue...............these importances also apply when chooing a wife. wink wink

the thread is unchanged and still reads 'Vanguard or XBolt'
yet here are the Tikka fanboys, must be a cult lol
Cant say I fall into that category being that I prefer my Christensens, Coopers, and CZs, but when a poster mentions he's not happy with the 2 rifles he owns currently I don't think the suggestion that he sell both and replace them with 1 is a big reach. Detach mag? Check. Great shooter? Check. Wood stock? Check. Great triggers? Check. Lots of options? Check.

Really the only strike against is the one size fits all actions but unless he's experimenting with various bullets, coal's, and handloading, which it doesn't sound like he is, the Tikka fits the bill for pretty much the same price as the ones he owns. I'm thinking there might be a good reason theres so many of them sold and it may have to do with who's making them and where they're built.

Of course there's always the option for him to build a full custom job and get everything he wants forever but...

Tikkas are so good that by the time everyone is finished switching out the parts all you have left is a Long Action.. lol
Oh, and a yo Dave spring
First I've heard of a Yo Dave going into a Tikka but if so...it beats the heck out of a trip to the gunsmith for a full trigger job on a Japanese rifle.
