The FRT requirement is not law yet but the Liberal Governement has said they are looking at making it a requirement. Regardless, it is the manufactruers responsibility to ensure the firearm is classified correctly when producing and selling the firearm. An FRT ensures the firearm is classified correctly.

Aside from the FRT issue, the firearm they would produce would indeed be illegal with respect to this part of Bill C-21. This specific criterion was added to the definition of a prohibited firearm by the amendment to Bill C-21, which received Royal Assent on December 15, 2023.

"A firearm designed and manufactured after December 15, 2023, may be classified as a prohibited firearm in Canada if it is not a handgun, discharges centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner, and was originally designed with a detachable magazine with a capacity of six or more cartridges, according to Public Safety Canada."

So while yes we are indeed mad at Lockhart for a variety of reasons, this does not discount the fact that what they are proposing is in our opinion illegal.

One cannot argue this is our fault, the Renegade and Maverick were designed to prevent modification to semi-auto using common knowledge and tools. The fact that Lockharts proposed service requires specialized tools and machinery, specilaized knowlege, and 3rd party parts means that they are making a completely new firearm. Whether they machine their receiver from a billet, a forging, or a partially finished receiver is immaterial to the fact they are producing their own firearm with our markings on them.

Thats fair, thanks. And certainly makes a lot of sense.
Now all I wonder is why/how they would claim to have the go from the lab on this.
Edit : I see their website was modified to say they are now waiting to obtain it in writing from the lab. My guess is that will possibly never happen.

I'd suggest not trying to prove things with law, if the govt follows the law your rifle will remain NR, if they dont it doesnt really matter what law you quote, does it?
 
Getting my rifle in the mail this week. Could be the beginning of a new chapter in my collection.

Is it generally faster to have the charging handle on the right or left? For a right handed shooter.

What’s the fastest way to get rounds down range with this puppy? I’ve got some 20 round BCL mags that need a burn down.

Bench id say left. Then dont need to take hand off the trigger.

Look at when CF changed from using your right hand and 2 fingers to operate the charging handle. Then use your left hand, keeping your RH on the grip. It was way faster.

You can put a charging handle on both sides, at the same time. That way, no matter what position you're shooting from you can have options.

If you find you favor just one side then pull the other one off 🙂

Yes I believe they are working on one.
 
My main gripe with my Renegade as of now is that with the charging handle on the left side, the bolt catch is unusable except to lock the bolt back. I've been brainstorming some DIY catch extension that moves the pad out of the path of the charging handle, but I think this is just something to live with unless MRA either comes out with a different charging handle that doesn't take your thumb on the ride into battery (hard lesson learned the first time!), or comes up with a custom bolt catch. I think the MRA rifles are a winning formula. The next step in my opinion would be expanding on the concept and tweaking things to optimize the platform more with new parts and accessories specifically for the rifle, and talk about a folding charging handle is a step in the right direction.

Other notes on the rifle after a few hundred rounds:

-Everyone at the range wants to know about it

-Half of the people at the range want one

-Other half: "Is that thing legal sonny?"

-My upper and lower are two different colours

-I want another one even though I haven't finished my first one
 
Got my renegade today! Looks great!

I tried inserting the BCL mags and they fit with considerable force. However, inserting the BCL MRX mag seems to lock up bolt solid.

Suggestions?

Edit to add: holy cow is this thing hard to extract! I’ve got a bruise on my finger now. - I'm talking; take the rifle, place the butt on my chest and give it everything I’ve got. I’m 6’4” 200lbs.

Tell me this smooths out!

I have 2 and one thing I don't like is the huge flared mag well. I say make it like a regular AR including straight instead of that notch in the middle and that would be fine. A minor thing is the supplied handguard. It is butt ugly with the "V" nearest the muzzle. I have avoided buying a complete rifle just because of the handguard. My 2 pennies

Nah man, there is something wrong with your rifle or ammo, mine is smooth as butter from day one.
