SIG P226 or P229 ?

Handle them both and find out.

I can say that in my case the 229 fits my hand much better, and when I add on the short trigger its perfect.

I agree handle both. I ultimately selected a 229, to me it feels perfectly balanced, shoots incredible, not quite as good as my 220 in 45 but really close. Check out the Sig forums for other opinions

See, I didnt like the 220 as much as the 226 or 229... I find the 229 has a small spot near the slide release that pushes your hand down on the grip a bit. I still like the 229 for the size and feel, but I was thinking about getting some different grips for it... should make it feel better. The styling of the grips on the Equinox are exactly what the regular 229 needs, just in plastic.

the 226 will be much cheaper as you don't need to buy an aftermaket barrel. I have the 226ST and the 229elite, both are great guns, but the 229 is about $300 more at the end of the day.

P229 was designed as a more concealable version of the 226. Since concealed carry is largely a moot point in this country, there's not reason to pay extra for the 229 - and live with the ugly extended barrel.

The P229 is smaller and will possibly feel a lot better in certain hands than the 226... Also, your logic is flawed. If applied to all guns, 90% would be removed from the market. Wrong attitude, for someone who claims to be a gun nut. :slap:

Even my buddies with larger hands say they prefer the smaller sight radius of the 229. Your opinion of the extended barrel is a "moot point", since that is in the eye of the beholder.

Not quite so bad on regular rail models, check out Questars deal page only a $93.81 difference between 229 and 226 standard Sig models, no aftermarket barrel on the advertised 229, it comes with a 106mm genuine made for Canada Sig barrel.

I recommend that you head out and handle both.

Handle the guns, see how they fit in your hand, how readily the controls are manipulated and how well they punch out for you.

I'm not sure how P229 would be more comfortable in certain hands, seeing that the size of the grip is not much different.

Also, don't accuse me of being anti-gun. I never said that people should not be able to buy the p229 or other compact guns. What I said is that the primary rationale for choosing the P229 over the P226 is not very relevant for most Canadians.

Your buddies are idiots. Anyone with even a basic understanding of firearms will tell you that longer sight radius is preferable for accurate shooting. And what the hell does one's hand size have to do with sight radius anyway?

Shorter sight radius could lead to faster return time for reacquiring the sights, couldn't it?

At least, I find that my 228 copy has a very fast reacqusition time. Could be the reduced distance to the front sight.

There may be something to it in theory, but I doubt that the shorter sight radius significantly affects target re-acquisition. If that was the case, completive shooters would be relocating the rear sight further up the slide (a la Detonics 1911). But I've never heard of anyone actually doing that.
