I purchased a Browning XBolt 2 in 7mm RM
I’m looking to put a Burris Fullfield IV 4-16x50 on it( scope is enroute)
Anyone with real world experience on this combination?
My concern is the main tube won’t be long enough to get correct eye relief with the standard Browning/Talley bases.
Will I require a Picatinny rail ?
Just trying to get everything in order( purchase) when scope comes in
Pic of your setup would be great as well

I'd wait unil you have the scope to figure out your ring height and scope position to get proper eye relief. Maybe you can get away with two piece rings/bases. If you're in a hurry, get a pic rail/rings and be done with it.

I just went through this aggrevation with my model 70. Take it one step at a time.
I ended up having to get a weaver one piece rail and higher rings.

Just an FYI, the new long action X-Bolt 2 requires a different rail than a regular long action X-Bolt. Talley lightweights are still the same but the screw hole spacing from front to rear is longer. The rail helps with scope placement for eye relief but don’t buy the wrong size. Ironically, the short actions didn’t change. Good job Browning engineers 🤔

This is my concern. Holes are almost 1/4” farther then the “ normal” long action
There are a lot of scopes on the market that can’t accommodate the Magnum length without a rail

I’ve called 3 different sporting goods stores and no one carries the “Magnum” length which is standard on all long action
Cabelas didn’t have a clue Browning changed the mounting holes on the browning xbolt2
Guy insisted the long action was what I needed

Getting advice from the gun counter at Cabela's, is like going to college for lesbian dance theory, and thinking it's going to help you out.

From what I understand they had to make the action a bit longer to fit 6.5 prc cartridge etc

I'm still amazed at how many people I see at the gun store who do zero research and rely on the person behind the gun counter to answer all their questions. I have learned to laugh quietly to myself, say nothing, make my purchase, and leave.

I was in a gun store once many years ago and there was a young would be hunter buying a new BLR 81 in 308. A nice small, handy rifle, perfect for these parts. The buyer got talked into buying a huge Leupold Hubel scope with a 50mm objective end on it which was totally out of order for that rifle. The scope was so big that they had to order in special rings to get it to fit the rifle. It cost the buyer a fortune only to give him a pkg that was too heavy and handled poorly. He would have been far better just to buy a 1.5-5x20 and have it in low mounts.

Who knows, maybe that's what the customer wanted. <eye roll>
