Where the heck is all the good 22 ammo????

Thanks a bunch!
I will look into this.

I have two other 457’s and when i i spect the chambers, the little stainless feed ramp is rigjt fluch against the back of the chamber face.

On this one, there is a wee gap. And the barrel is seated in full flush with the action face.

Im wondering if that stainless feed ramp is jammed under a bit and causing a bit or pressure on bolt rotation.

Especially because this issue showed up upon re-assembly of a rifle that had zero issue before.

I have a bit of time today so i will fully dissemble and clean and reassemble and see if that cleara it up.

I will also do the chambering test you went thru.

Thanks again.
Let us know what you find when you check the chamber.

I rebarreled a 455 Super Match with a 452 new take-off 20" varmint barrel. Same problem with hard bolt closing. I measured fresh ammo rim thickness, then chambered it (with difficulty) and remeasured, the rim thickness was compressed by almost 0.002". Not enough head space. I shimmed the barrel out by 0.0015, now when chambering there is only slightly more force required than there is when dry cycling the action. It really shoots too! Barrel shim kits can be ordered.

Heya,
Is this here the kind of thing you are talking about?
Looks like their thinnest is .oo2
Everywhere i look for cz shims all i get are bolt shims which would reduce headspace right?

Beeron - That looks like a better 'deal' than getting them from @Triggershims - They make both bolt and barrel-shims but they are $15 USD for a 5-pack, plus shipping & exch rate. And from what I've read the bolt shims 'wear out quickly', depending on how much you shoot.

So if CCI is inconsistent can I open up and dump out say 100 cases. Then accurately measuring up the powder and reseating the bullet (with 22lr die) to get more consistent powder amounts? Also measuring rim thickness as well. Will this work.
Can't you just weight each {intact} round on a decent scale, instead of taking them all apart? You'd at least have ones that you know 'weigh' the same, not sure about the rim thickness though. I've done that on cheaper .22, when I was going for 'accuracy', it seemed to work/help, to a degree.
I'm just out for fun, not competing though.

omg went to the range just now…I found a brick of somewhat cheap ammo that shoots hole in hole 5 round group at 50 and sub moa at 100. Although im shooting with my 457 mtr. The bolt close is tight not sure the headspace but it works. I’m not gonna mention what ammo cuz there some around Canada but not plentiful like cci or other cheaper brands. Thanks everyone for chiming in and some offering to sell. I will post some pics as soon as I’m home.
