Who is the retailer who was asking for pal to buy parts? And the clown show continues, I hope you are made whole good sir, your unfortunate circumstances have only confirmed my opinion of said company.
Was it a custom 1911 they butchered? What was it?Do you think $2900 would cover me sending a pile of random parts to a gunsmith to build me a custom 1911 ?
I doubt that, highly.

Yup Insurance ####ed over my step father in repair of his SUV. Dealer started to charge him 20$ a day.I strongly disagree that 2900 is generous.
If I crashed your car and you had to take the bus for 2 years, would you only expect the cost of your car because it was cheap ?
Again, they've offered 2900 for the WAIVER. Their offer of that 2900 for my waiver INCLUDES them repairing and returning the handgun functioning.
The issue is that they keep extending this timeline and we are headed past 3 years very soon, you're missing the bigger picture. Its not about the price of the handgun or the model of the handgun.
That's unfortunate, I guess reputations are not what they used to be. But do take my advice in contacting the other options I mentioned to you.Hopefully you can understand how I'm feeling when the first person that comes to mind for fixing these issues is actually the one that's been dragging me through this nightmare. You've named the party responsible for destroying the 1911 slide.
Yes? Even full custom 1911s start around $2500 all the way into the 10's and 20's. And you don't really want a full custom 1911, right? You just want a nice forged slide and probably a new barrel fitted onto your existing, irreplaceable, registered frame. Get your parts back, take the money, get it fixed, start enjoying your pistol again, and forget this ever happened. That company will get what's coming to them eventually one way or another.Do you think $2900 would cover me sending a pile of random parts to a gunsmith to build me a custom 1911 ?

I have been out of handgun repairs for 25 years... haven't anyone to reccomendCan you respond to my earlier question ?
I understand you think I should move on from this, I very much want to, who would you suggest I take a 1911 to ?
Howdy Folks,
Not going to state who (yet) but one of the industry members on this forum who advertises gunsmithing services has DESTROYED my 1911 slide.
I shipped them my slide almost 3 years ago, and followed up with the rest of the handgun as they had stated they were going to fix the whole thing and put it back to the state it should have been in, should they have taken proper duty of care.
The date they received the slide was early February of 2023, they kept telling me there were 'delays' until I finally forced it out of them 11 months later that they had destroyed the slide completely and were uncertain of what to do.
A further 2 months after that was the timeline for them to suggest taking the entire handgun in for remanufacturing (as the 1911 slide would need fitment to be replaced). I then sent them my 1911 handgun in its entirety. I have not seen my handgun or any component of it since then.
They have had their lawyer on-and-off contact me about resolution and I've been forced to get 'nasty' with them to the point that getting a timeline out of them was difficult. The timeline they had provided this summer for resolution on this nearly 3-year struggle was September (now). Unfortunately they have blown past this date and I am now sat here looking at filing a lawsuit, as it doesn't seem I have any other option.
Given these circumstances, what would you do with a major gunsmith/retailer;
- Destroyed pistol slide and took a year to acknowledge it, now nearly 3 years in total since project start
- Offered nothing in compensation for nearly 3 years of lost enjoyment
- Still has not returned my handgun or any component of it since February 2023
- Expects me to sign a document waiving my right to sue them, with a compensation of only $2900
P.S. I'll add that they've been rude during this process and treating my frustration like I'm being 'weird', when I only got difficult with them after 2+ years.

I'd want at least 5k.
They were incompetent the first time they messed up the slide and didn't take responsibility. Then incompetent to fix this in a timely manner. And you still want them to finish?
Don't need to put my hand in fire twice to know its gonna burn and hurt.
Counter with a lawyer, as they dont care. Theyre shoving 2900 for you to F off.

Starting to feel like that ! Haha.Duke it out in the back.
I appreciate that, thank you.
I have effectively leased my property to them without ever agreeing to do so, and as a result, I no longer have my 1911 and can’t use it for the purpose I purchased it for. This situation has taken up massive amounts of my time and has seriously impacted my enjoyment of the sport.
No one wants their hobby to be overshadowed by lawsuits and stressful situations like this. I’m not saying all three years have been like that, but it has been boiling over—especially in the last six months. No one here can fully appreciate how stressful it is to even type all this out and go through this process. This is absolutely not what I signed up for.
