well the auction house estimate is 16.5k-18.5K. We'll see if it can bring that in this economy. I have my doubts.

Home Guard Ross Rifles are quite scarce all things considered.
Total production numbers are low, many have interesting unit markings, and they are often the nicest Mk. III / M1910 you can find. Miller & Miller also attracts international buyers.
Some other auction houses have had them in the recent past, and they all sold in the same price range as the estimate example you mention. I know because I bought one!
I will buy every single Ross Mk. III H.G. in 95% condition that I can find for $1500-$2000.
If anyone is willing to part with them in that range, DM me!
I'm tempted... Mine may not have ever been fired - no primer ring on the bolt face, no brass smears in the magazine, no bullet tip rub mark on the feed ramp. Can't prove it , but possible. HG 100 mark on butt. The HG Rifles I've encountered have either been in generally fine condition or sported. I suspect that many were never really used.
Far more knowledgeable folks than myself have said the same thing, many did not see any live firing while in service, other than drill-use.
Some units did conduct domestic patrols with theirs (think Niagara, protecting power plants, BofM protecting certain monetary establishments) or live firing, but it depended on the unit. Even those seem to have been very well cared for while in service.
The last time I bought locally below auction rates and posted them here for all the “I’ll buy every one of those…” posters, it took me 6 months to sell, and I lowered price enough that I made no money and broke even.
Funny enough, it was a home guard Ross. Go figure.
I find the EE here for milsurps is often full of mediocre guns and few members here will pay auction like prices for premium pieces. I rarely post anything here for sale anymore as a result. Now I just bring them to the local consignment shop. Way less hassle, no tire kickers, etc.
I wonder how many CGNers will whip out $18.5k for a lingbranch sniper without the auction fever factor. I suspect few or none.

I spoke with the auction house this morning and asked if they would let me ship rifles that I have put in their auction. The lady I spoke with said they will likely have shipping in place by March. I said that's not what I asked, that I want to know if they will let me ship to the buyers for rifles I have in their auction. I told her that I have probably another 100 rifles to sell and that will make a big difference to the bidders and buyers if they know the rifles will be shipped. She assured me she will speak with the boss and plead my case. I suggested that being able to allow me to ship will make a difference where the rifles go to auction.
So, now I will wait for an answer.

I have seen quite a few rough H.G. Ross Rifles being offered for sale, and they are usually overpriced.
But a 95% condition H.G. is certainly in the ballpark price range mentioned earlier. As stated, I will buy every single 95% condition H.G. Ross I can find for $1500-$2000.
The CGN E.E. is not a good market indicator generally speaking, no offence to CGN.
Condition is a big factor.
What is a Winchester 94 worth as an example? $850 to a local non collector hunter? I have seen a Winchester 94 sell for $50,000 USD.
Condition, rarity, special features, etc.

It only takes a couple of idiots bidding to put the price up. Been there done it over paid. I almost did it again a couple of weeks ago. Lithgow bayonet. I stopped at $460. And then premiums and shipping on top. Sold for $535.
Bring them to me, I will buy them all and leave you some profit on top.

You should probably start a thread in the milsurps section, it is a very interesting and under researched area.
In the last couple of years, new information has come to light regarding some H.G. units not previously thought to have existed. Several smaller units raised during the 1914-1915 hype quickly fizzled out thereafter.
It would be neat to see what is out there.
