Which rifle for a 6.5PRC?

Morning,

Right now I am between two rifles to start a longer range build:

1. Remington 700 Long Range 26" heavy barrel

2. Tikka T3X Tactical Compact 24"

Both have threaded barrels, and the price is negligible since the 700 will need a rail anyway. I am leaning towards the 700 currently, as I already have a heavy barrel 700 in .308, and also a buddy who shoots longer range also swears by the 700. That being said, I am open to opinions on both, or either.

For relevance, I intend to stretch out to 1,500m +, I reload ammunition, will be getting an MDT chassis for whichever rifle, and want something a little more flat shooting than a .308.
 
I picked up a couple new made 700's, the fit/finish/machining is tight, much better overall rifles then I've seen from them.
First was a 700P in 300Win, I've been shooting this one alot, came with a timney elite hunter trigger that can be set pretty light, the HS P stock is a love it or hate it affair, grip is like a baseball, very roundish and large, it works for me, so I'm good, they also put a slightly larger bolt knob on these that works well. 175's to 210's shoot tight with hardly any load work.
2nd was a 700 Long Range in 300Win as well, sale at Tenda I couldn't pass on. Same deal, but a Timney trigger that's not adjustable, it's heavier but breaks nice, the HS stock on the long range is nicer then the old B&C M40 style they use to come with, but...it's a lighter stock, makes it barrel heavy, I haven't shot it yet, I have a lightly used Bartlien 24" straight taper 300Win barrel I plan on throwing on this one, spare Timney trigger in the parts bin, picked up a Bergera HMR stock that takes aics mags, it's going to be used a little different then the 700P, but again, no complaints.
I'll probably through the HS stock on my older 7mm long range, replace the B&C M40 stock, it is lighter, but it fits me more comfortable, and the 7mm with a brake is like a 243 recoil.
My 6.5PRC is one of those blow out Sauer 100 Field Shoot affairs, it didn't need anything, trigger is wild, balance is perfect, quite a heavy rifle, stock is comfortable and.nice, only wonky part was the 18x1 metric threaded muzzle, but got a Heathen on that, it really doesn't move at all when you shoot it.

I have a Bergara, and I had a Savage 110. I would, and did pick the Bergara. I gave the Savage to Mason.

I've never been a fan of the Tikka. I don't like stock, it doesn't fit me well.

I do like the Remington's, which is why I went Bergara. I have had numerous other Rem 700's, multiple different cartridges. All of mine shot very well.
 
If I were to buy another gun for longer range stuff, I'd buy a clone action and build one, wouldn't waste my time with a factory Rem action, have to change out the trigger, barrels are 60/40 if they'll shoot, or not, action needs blueprinting. Were I to go Tikka, I'd likely try the Ace instead of the CTR, were I to modify one, probably look at a Varmint version instead. One plus for a Tikka is the trigger, if you think it's light enough, it is a good trigger, shouldn't have to change it out right away. And a Tikka can use prefit barrels, std Rem action can't.

Good information, I too am a fan of my current Remington 700 and while I do like adding diversity to my safe, sometimes it's nice to stick with the tried and true.

I haven't been a fan of the Savage rifles I have had, and as a result never put a tonne of time or rounds through them. Good to know about the Tikka, although might be a moot point as my intent is to replace the stock with an MDT chassis, but thank you for the information.

I am always wary of clone actions, and it is largely for the often unjustified reason that a clone can't be as good as the original, but I have heard that is not the case with Bergara rifles. My current 700 has the factory trigger still that my buddy who swears by Remington 700's worked on and it's pretty nice now, although my definition of nice is likely not as refined as some. I'll look at Bergara's and the Tikka Ace, although I will likely buy at least the action/barrel that I intend to go with it. It is a good point to just look for an action/barrel is very interesting, as I do intend to essentially exchange everything out, and may be able to save some shackles that way.

WTH . There Totally 2 different rifles - like black and white 🤷‍♂️ are you just mixed up ?
 
In most cases with the Rem 700 based actions, they are almost all better than the Remington ones themselves.
Most aren't really "clone" actions as we generally use the term, they are just built using the same footprint and trigger, etc, but aside from trigger, stock/chassis, and scope mounting, they aren't really compatible with anything else.

For a barreled action, and depending on actual intended use, Bergara now offers barreled actions. I know that the Calgary Shooting Center normally has some. They are offered in fairly limited cartridges, but most of the popular ones are offered.

Cadex makes fine rifles for bench or hunting. I have the SHP in 6.5 PRC and the gun is smooth . Heavy enough to suck up most of the recoil. Would highly recommend them to anyone who shoots from a bench.
 
I'm not sure what your budget is but being that you want to swap chassis, trigger, etc I'd suggest just getting one of the less expensive "clones" and building from there. The clones (not really clones, just share the same footprint and accept same triggers) are pretty much always better in every conceivable way than an actual 700 (and I say this as a guy who still has a few 700s). Get a Bighorn Origin or Defiance Classic (around $1500 each) and then order a prefit barrel in 6.5 PRC, a trigger and the chassis of your choice. You'll have exactly what you want, no swapping stuff around and an overall better rifle than you can build on a 700.
