Xlnt question man , Actually none of them have
''Ideal'' marked on them only in catalogues & books.

Model 44 is a ''Tipping or Pivoting'' block , came out in 1894
and was used in various models till 1947 .

44.JPG

Model 441/2 is a ''Falling or Sliding'' block , came out in 1903 and was used in
various models till 1916 .

44 1 2a.JPG

Both actions were chambered in all calibres from .22 SHORT to . 44-40 & .38-55 .

The Model 44 1/2 is a stronger action and was developed to handle
higher pressures of ''Smokeless'' powder .

They have essentially no interchangeable internal parts.

Hope this helps .

Interesting that the Mod 44 was manufactured longer than the Mod 44 1/2, I had assumed the 44 1/2 was the improved replacement design. I have owned a 1915 Favorite in the past, is the Mod 44 essentially a beefier Favorite?
Sorry for the late response, I have been on the road

Hey jed
Well WW 1 changed the complexion of every thing in the world , firearms included
the single shot lever surrendered the bolt action.

Also the ''German'' Schuetzen style was less popular .

Winchester 1885 was discontinued in 1920 , Remington rolling block in 1913 and
the Stevens factory was commandeered for the war effort in 1915.

The Model 44 was continued in rimfire and small centre fire calibres . (25-20 , 32-20)

Nice rifles !
25-20SS brass is difficult to find ,but did find a tutorial on ASSRA how to make them from 223 cases
made up some and they do work well but less case capacity
