How many post do you have to reach or how long does it take to loose the newbie status?

Pretty sure it's 30... i just looked over and I realized I wasn't one anymore. Last time I noticed I was at something like 25 or whatever, and then it disappeared.

What I don't understand, is how do some people make their own title? Is that limited to just mods or what.
