It was cut.
Cost more than the rifles worth, buy one that hasn’t been cut for a silencer. The best examples aren’t expensive. To have it “restored” is a bigger waste the rear sight boss is integral to the barrel and the front sight hoods are basically impossible to find.

In a way, I agree. It's not cheap to have a rifle re-barreled but it gives the owner the choice of chambering, twist, contour and length. I think he needs a 358Winchester or 338Federal, but a good 308 is no slouch either. A 9.3x57 would be very cool as well.
Much of what we discuss here isn't "worth it". We could all just buy a good 308 or 30-06 for hunting and be done with everything else.
Not worth it or financially feasible? The most financially feasible way is to borrow someone else’s rifle. What’s worth it is to get the action that’s been sitting in the safe fitted with a barrel so that it can be used again and handed to my son. Sometimes not being financially feasible is very much worth the spending of the funds. I’m already aware that it’s not worth spending the cash on as an investment. What is worth it is the planning, the discussions with my son, the dreaming and seeing the idea of it come to life. It may turn out to be an ugly duck, but it’s ours.
Try reckoning the muzzle. Might solve your issues if the rest of the barrel is OK. - dan
