EM does not give back to PRS, infact shane threw a temper tantrum at the apex rocky mountain challenge because they refuse to support the PRS, and their logo wasnt on the banner.Yup! Shane / Steve at Em Precision makes great rifles. EM Precision also gives back to the sport that we all care so much about. They sponsor a lot of matches out there.
The personal smith I use and would recommend is Badlands Precision. Shawn is more of an underdog in the industry but he chambers some absolute hammers! Proof is in the pudding…
Same 300 prcKS Arms barrelled action, bolt it in an MDT chassis, with a triggertech trigger. All Canadian build. I did the same, but with a Wildcat Composites stock.
What chambering? Mine is a 300 PRC, shoots in the .1’s and hammers steel.

ive heard from numerous shooters, from numerous events, that the EM crew is awful to the RO's and staff.
the only people they get to buy their rifles are people who dont know any better, then they screw them over. i would suggest avoiding EM at any cost.
I have a few full customs from him...Best in the industry IMHO.Just had a rifle built by Harley @ Insite Arms fit and finish was flawless, was more than accommodating steering me towards what components to look at and 338 Norma holds conservative 3/4 moa with factory ammo as I haven’t broken in the barrel fully to start load dev yet would highly recommend
I went with a 28” barrel, close to a heavy Palma contour, 1:8.5 twist. Originally had it in a KRG Bravo stock but wanted to lighten it up and use it more for hunting.Same 300 prc
Was thinking 300 prc 26-28” hv or mtu barrel in a krg whiskey stock maybe terminus action if I can find everythingI went with a 28” barrel, close to a heavy Palma contour, 1:8.5 twist. Originally had it in a KRG Bravo stock but wanted to lighten it up and use it more for hunting.
While it might be cheaper, most of these smiths prefer to have the action on hand. Since they work to tighter tolerances than some action manufacturers can guarantee. If you are even a with a little bit of aptitude you can put together your own at home! If you want to anyways.
Most of the top actions now a days are all prefit capable, and most manufacturers sell prefit barrels for these actions.
I went this route with a 6.5 CM a few years back. Had a rem 700 short action chassis already, bought a barrel when I ran across one on sale, then 4 months later bought the action that I had the barrel spun up for. Yea with a barrel nut, but they really don't take away anything from the ability of the rifle to perform.
In fact I set my own headspace a tad tighter so I did not have to pre-shoot my new brass to fit the chamber. Just used the new brass with a loaded dummy to set the headspace. Yes I still checked with a no go gauge and all was good. Was able to load up with new brass and had problems with it and didn't have to worry about shooting it all in my chamber before hand.
Once you have the action, barrel, slap it in the chassis, and slap on your scope of choice and go to the range.
I even scribed my barrel nut and barrel to the action so when I wanted to remove the barrel for deep cleaning I could put things back to how I had them and had very little re zeroing of the scope after wards.
Really not as hard as it seems as the smith sets the barrel up already to the action. I truly am surprised that not many are using this route yet.
You pay about $500-$600 extra for a smith to spin up a barrel for the action if you go the smith route, and that works out to a bit of consumables for shooting with. Plus most smith's prefer you buy the action and barrel from them, or they charge a crazy extra fee, if they even choose to go that route, as some won't even entertain that for you. Lets you buy the parts as you can if you have to save up over a few months.

Gunsmoke in Campbell River is making amazing rifles for the past few years. Their website needs work, but their build quality is amazing.I am looking to have a custom tactical/precision rifle built, just for ringing steel. I thought about going the Cadex route but I still think I would prefer custom . Any advice ? Thanks
