Beretta 1301 comp pro - do it all work horse? Yay or nay?

I have to admit, I was thinking of the 1301 tactical, and was unaware of the rib barrel model. So basically, it is just a shorter barrel, without any of the tactical nonsense. That being the case, the 24" barrel would be my choice, as it would swing much smoother, and it would be allowed on most skeet/sporting clays fields, as 24" is the normal minimum barrel length, if there is one. As far as upgrades, you can't legally extend the magazine to hold more than 5 rounds, because it is a semi auto.

I would love to see any beretta pics of 1301s,
I've had mine for roughly 2 years now. Regardless, its a 1301 Comp with 24", I like it. Alot. I dont use it for official competition but I do a little with buddies in the back 40. Its great for clays. As an FYI the 21" model didnt/doesnt interest me at all, too short for my liking.
I've always been a raised rib fan along with a mid-bead, both are well suited to this model as far as I'm concerned. Shoulders for me right out of the box exactly as it should. Altho there's plenty of adjustment for fit if needed.
I wouldnt say its the softest shooter but it certainly aint bad, its no 1100 in that respect, my Maxus is softer as well, but again it aint bad. I've shot worse. Much worse.
Trigger wise, typical Beretta, meaning excellent. Nice and crisp, I'm guessing it to have 4 lbs (perhaps slighty less) pull. It has a large factory machined loading port which is nice and smooth.
The only mod I've done is to throw an old KickEez (grind to fit) pad on it, partly to further reduce recoil and also give me a tad more LOP.
Love it for carrying in the bush for partridge, bear baiting, backyard clay games, quite accurate at 50 yrds with 1 oz slugs too.
I cant recall exactly but I 'think' it only came with an IC flush fit choke. I did pick up an ext LM and IM HP chokes, the thing does everything I want/need it to do for quite abit less $ wise than the Pro model. AND (not to offend) its not blue.
Shell wise, no issues with 1 1/8, 1 oz and my reloaded 7/8 oz. Its been awhile but just for the halibut I think I ghost loaded it with 1 oz'rs a few times as well.
Hope this helps!

I love the idea of the oversized features as well. Thanks for mentioning everything that you are using your 1301 for. I need to ask, as I am intrigued about the elastic band around the receiver for trap. Could you explain more? I would love to see a pic and why this is done. Thanks.
Its so I dont pelt the shooter on the next station with empty hulls

I would love to see any beretta pics of 1301s, novas etc. Especially the 1301 comp and comp pro with any upgrades done. Be it QD placement, slings, match savers, extended mags or extra storage ammo. What are the pros and cons (if any) of your upgrades? Thanks everyone once again. This community is incredible. Your comments whether positive, neutral or negative are all welcome, as it is adding to my knowledge and is appreciated.

You, sir, are one of the most considerate semi-auto trap shooters I’ve come across! Lol
There is nothing quite like a hot hull bouncing off my head to “enhance” my concentration for the next target!
I dont want to scuf someone's gun either
I am not aware of any shell catchers for the 1301 comp or a400 xplor. I dont want to glue a wire guard on the receiver either so the band works just fine and the raised rib I dont see the band
My 1100 has a metal clip thst slips on and off and works well.

Thanks, your write up was great. I believe I will end up getting the 24 inch. Not 100 percent yet.

Along with all the other upgrades, the Comp Pro offers one other subtle advantage.
The Beretta 1301 Comp Pro has a receiver length based on the 3.5" model to facilitate easier and faster loading, while the standard 1301 Comp has a 3" receiver.
The Pro's larger receiver, enlarged loading port, and pro-lifter system are key features for quad-loading in competition, even though the 3" chamber remains the standard on both models.

No, both the Comp and the Comp Pro have the 3.5" receiver, same enlarged loading port, the Tactical has the 3" receiver.

Merry Christmas to me. After much deliberation in my little pea brain, I pulled the trigger on a 21' 1301 comp pro. It should arrive in a week and won't be opened until Christmas. I decided on the 21' barrel d/t Sniffer's comments about the 28' A400 barrel fitting on the 1301. If after a tonne of practice, I find the shorter barrel isn't quite suiting all of my needs I can always purchase the longer barrel, keep them both and truly have a one and done shotgun for all of my needs. I plan on getting some magload dummy rounds from England, as the distributor in Canada is out of stock. I figure practicing loading wouldn't hurt. It will give me something interesting to try to master and drive my wife nuts, in the process. Sounds like a win to me lol.

Good choice.
Check out Magloads mag tube extensions too. They are super light weight carbon fiber. Can be ordered to whatever length you wish so can be flush with your extended chokes.

Order from England, or is there a Canadian dealer?

Double Tap seem to stock a lot of Magload products (but their inventory is a little right now it appears) however I don't believe they stock the carbon fiber mag extensions so that would have to come directly from Magload. The CF mag tubes look very cool and I could see myself picking up one of those in time.

I find internantional orders for shotgun parts much less troublesome than other types of guns (SA rifle parts and anything potentially ITAR should be navigated carefully or it will become a PITA).

I have ordered directly from Magload and J-Kenny etc and it was very easy. The low value of our Canadian peso right now makes it painful in a different way however.

Merry Christmas indeed.

Good choice. The 28" barrel gives options for sure if you feel it is required and the 21" is pretty compact (probably as short as you would want to go for this type of gun). This is the only way to get this combo as I don't believe you can purchase the 21" barrel separately.

I picked up the Magload dummy rounds (ordered direct) and they are great for practice (feel study, weight etc makes them feel like real rounds).

They are great shotguns. There are a few differences between the Pro and regular. The Kickoff stock which adds a little weight but makes shooting even softer, improved shell release, improved shell lifter that stays up allowing faster reloads, nicer foregrip, and it comes with 3 extended chokes. The negative is the blue receiver. You can buy all these upgraded parts and add them to a regular Comp and make it a Pro, in black, but that's more expensive that just buying a blue Pro. 24" might swing a little nicer, but I still prefer the 21".

Beauty rig, I need that tube! Which mag tube extension are you running can you give le the details on everything you're running in that regards including the barrel clamp?

Thanks. It's a Nordic Components mag tube, the +3. Sits a little proud of the barrel if using flush chokes, slightly shorter than if using extended chokes. The barrel clamp is Magpul.

Outstanding, thank you kindly grain. I figured it was a plus 3 nordic but I didn't want to assume. I'm going to get some of the extended optima chokes too. Any recommendations on what choke you like the most for skeet shooting?
