What are some of the pros and cons of acraglass? Are there any better substitutes that outweigh the cons of Acra Glass (if there are any)

I have 2 projects that require use of an epoxy. 1 is turning a sporterized K11 stock into a Mannlicher stock via stock splicing and the other project is making a AR grip and stock out of birch plywood for a tactical 10/22.

Would JB Weld clear epoxy be enough for the 10/22 project? Would you suggest Acra Glass for a K11 stock or some other epoxy.

Acraglas is easy enough to work with, I like the steelbed Acraglas, seen a similar product from JB and others, have also just added filings to regular Acraglas to help strengthen it. My one beef with Acraglas is it doesn't store all that great once opened, it'll harden up on its own without the hardener added. It always did what I was asking of it.

Iv had mixed luck with acraglas. It worked great when new, but then started getting a little grainy. Tried the heating it up with not much luck.

Iv used clear JB and clear gorilla epoxy for forend and grip caps with good luck.

Brownell's developed their bedding products specifically for the gunsmith trade. It has an easy working time and when cured an extremelly low shrinkage rate. I have used their acraglas since my first year in gunsmithing school in 1966. I really liked it when the 'gel' came out. It is also very easy to remove when you want to do that. No reason not to use Acra Glas or Gel.

Guess if I'd done some research, I could have tried reactivating it, thought that it was possible, never even ocurred at the time, tossed the remnants of 2-3 incomplete boxes of it.. World won't come to an end over it, have some Marine Tex for the next bedding job, and the steel JB weld is readily available for use in certain apps as well.

Always been Acra glass for me for a lot of yrs. Have used Myles Gilberts products as well with equally great results !
Then about 10-12 yrs ago, Devcon 10110 was all the rage...sooo, like the other sheeple, I followed..lol
Worked great, It's another awesome product.
I did about 5 or 6 rifles with it ...loved it. Bought the second can..big price increase. **BEWARE**...this stuff also has a shelf life...and it hurts like "F" to toss hundred dolla bills away !!

Still have some Acra glass left along with some of Myles' stuff...but it's been 3 or 4 yrs since my last bedding job...did a few repairs over the last few tho. All came out great !!

Microwave also worked to rejuvenate the Acra glass and Myles resins !

Never thought of using the microwave. Sounds a mite risky if not closely watched. Not wanting to explain to the Boss why I Acraglassed her microwave, I think I will stick with the water bath.

just for the info try a small bit of any epoxy or resin thats gone thick.... mix in a dab of acetone to working viscosity add hardener and test short and see what happens ...works for me in most cases .........
