I have one of the first 10 mils (other than Bren 10)before the Colt,its a Thompson Auto Ordinance!
With wrap around tomahawk arrow grips,and combat hammer!
The cartridge should not be confused with just a smaller cal like the .41 mag ,verses the 44 mag(the 41 and the 10 mil are .410cal)the 44 Rem mag is .421 cal more like 42 cal!

I'd like to find a 10 mm conversion for my 1911
I read in lymans handloading yrs ago that the 10mm has more power than the 357 mag. I couldn't believe it at first, because it has less recoil. but all the books I read show that same results.
too bad it never really caught on. I like it.

It actually did catch on like a fire storm then I witnessed the flood gates being closed when the FBI admitted that they had to reduce the velocity of the rounds to reduce recoil for their limp wristed/small handed agents that couldn't handle the recoil.
When S&W heard about this they made a brilliant move by introducing the 40S&W (Short & Weak) that was the start of the demise of the popularity of the 10mm...
The 10mm is an awesome round with the Glock 20 & 29 being the best of the bunch.
The concern about converting your 1911 is that the frame may not be strong enough to handle the higher pressures of the 10mm round.
Colt made their 10mm frames/slides extremely tough to handle this issue.
If you do this conversion go with a 24# recoil spring for the top loads.
You are correct sir I should not have put the 41 mag and the 10mil as the same cal,but either of them will be about 1&1/2 more muzzel energy than a 45acp.
I just find it hard to imagine the .357 Mag anywhere in the debate(200 grn bullets?).

I wish i never had sold my S&W 1006 10mm. big mistake
it didn't jump like my 1911 .45. it was kinda nice ,but the grip of the 1006 was kinda thin & you couldn't get any accesorys for it.
the US. army tried the bren 10 also in limited use. way back.
