Picked up a rifle and want to get the barrel and receiver mounted properly. I think one of the mounting holes needs retapping (possibly stripped - won’t tighten ) and new sleeves installed in the stock and bedded. Also want the barrel shortened a bit and crowned. Who is in the Markham GTA area that can do this kind of work ?

uxbridge arms also offers smith services,
They are the closest to you.

Striped action screws, shortening barrels (modification) bedding and crown work.

Unless its heirloom and sentimental you would be better off to get a new one. Doing all that work and running around

What rifle is it?

I picked up a Nielsen target rifle. Only one screw is a problem I think . Wasn’t a huge investment and if I can get it mounted safely to enjoy that’s my goal. The other work like shortening the barrel is just an option.

Ausie build. Nice little rabbit hole you sent me down, they were unknown to me. F class.
Loos like a nice thing to have working, see when Casey can look at it.

I have had a Nielsen MN300 for many years. In a vintage Robertson synthetic stock. Original barrel was set back. Eventually rebarreled it with a Schneider barrel. TR - Target Rifle class - Central rear sight. Drilled and tapped it so it could be shot F(TR). Last time I had it out shot a 5/8" group at 100m with generic TR ammunition. .308 Winchester cases, CCI primers, 46gr Varget, 155SMK.
The Nielsen is an interesting action. Evolved out of the Nielsen adapter which enabled Sportco rifles to be rebarreled with other than proprietary Sportco barrels. Two piece receiver. Uses 3 lug Sportco bolt head. If you ever considered making a target rifle action, study a Nielsen. Possible to do in a good home machine shop.
I wouldn't cut the barrel. The long TR barrel is a really easy way to get the most velocity out of a .308.

It’s the 223 wylde. Maybe didn’t strip the bolts. Was told maybe wrong bolt placement . Deliberate. Need to check . It’s built on the sportco 44 receiver .

Nielsen adapter in a Sportco 44 receiver? I do not know what action screws a Sportco 44 uses to secure the receiver to the stock. Maybe 1/4-28?

Measured the screws .242 or 6.1 mm. Just under 1/4 inch with 26 tpi. This leaves two screw types. BSCY British cycle like on old Nortons/UNF or the BSF screw. So British would make sense.
