I bought a Winchester 1876 in 40 60 and I have no idea what it is worth. I would say that the condtion is good for a gun this old (1884). Some one offer to buy this gun sight unseen but I would like to get some idea about the price I paid less than $1000 for this old timer.

I may sell it to get something I would shoot. I haven't decieded yet;

Well I took this gun Epp's and when they put thier eyes back in thier head the price of the gun was amazing. I will keep this gun as part of my retirement package.

You're way out here......a '76 in shooting condition is probably worth over $2000 and in fair to good cond......a NWMP '76 in 45-75 is worth more.....any '76 in good or better cond. you can add $1000.....any '76 with factory options that are out of the ordinary can drive the price up, such as D.S. trigger, special sights(factory), special stock or wood. They may be worth even more in the USA, where rare Winchesters rule! I am not a Winchester expert but I know you won't find any $300 Winchester 76s out there!!

We really need a few photos. How much original blue is still on the rifle? Is the action tight? What is the condition of the wood? It could quickly reach the $3,000 mark if it is in good condition.
 
I sold one not very long ago for $1,000.00, actually a '73, which was in my opinion, a parts rifle. Sold quickly too. A '76 in unaltered condition which is in G or VG condition would have to be worth at least $2,500.00.
 
What it is worth and who will buy it are two very differet things.I buy sell trade guns all the time and sometimes I get a real buy like you did [if it is as you discripe ]when I get something like that that I'm just interested in "flipping" to buy somethig else I go for a resonable profit instead of listening to all the "wow thats worth $fill in the amount here.that said I would thik you could double your money in a wk.And if that not enough profit for you then yo had better become a lobbyist for the Libera gov.

Your carbine is interesting and you should post pics and the serial over with the Winchester boys at Winchestercollector.org! It will make for some interesting discussion.

Nice pics...Don and Jan have some real beauties on their website. I've seen the pics of Bill's 76 as well, but don't know enough about them to know it should have had a bayonet and scabbard, only that it was a carbine. Interesting to see the story behind this one. I'd suggest posting on the WACA site as well, some real good knowledge over there and friendly folks.

BTK-The BlueBook is only as accurate as the guys who write it are- it's simpler now that the Booshbuck has collapsed to match the Kretchen.....If you're in a position to estimate accurate prices, easy to approach BlueBook and offer to write the section covering your particular scope of interest...Without at least a photo of the '76 to check, no estimate could be made, but remember; the toughest '76 to find is likely the RCMP Carbine, and my bet is a lot of them are still on your side of the razorwire....

I agree with you for the most part Ross but the Blue Book has some prices listed that are just plain out-to-lunch IMHO.

Myself, I find the Standard Catalog of Firearms to be way more accurate than the Blue Book;)....

I be a rich assed guy if I could get what the Blue Book says some of my guns are worth :rolleyes:
