never say 12 gauge aint enough gun for hunting

You know its funny how uninformed some people are. I remember going deer hunting at a friends camp. When I arrived they all looked at my slug gun with its 23" rifled barrel and leupold VXII scope. They all commented on how they used to deer hunt with shotguns when they were kids. They told me that the shotgun is an excellent starter gun. The funny thing is, I laughed inside when I looked at there .30-30's, .270's, .308's etc.......

It will take a long time before a lot of hunters fully understand the awesome power and performance of the 12ga loaded with premium sabot slugs.

True words my friend indeed. One could go one step further than that too.
For example I utilized an Ithaca M37 Deerslayer Police Special and 12 gauge Brenneke Classic Rotweill slug, to quickly dispatch a wild boar at 75 yards, last St. Patty's Day....

Using the factory iron sights, and lots of practice prior too.
There were many wild boar about, but I felt very secure with this particular combination.

How about winchester 300gr xp3 12 gauge sabot at 2100fps 1746 ft lbs of energy at 125 yards, it must fell real good at 200 yards. with 100 yards zero it has -6.5" drop at 175 yards.

I took a doe this year with iron sights at 125 yards. The barnes all copped sabot zipped wright threw the ribs on both sides.

I didn't say anything about suitability of the 12 guage for big game, I only quoted what is in the BC regulations.

I have shot a pile of deer, lost track of how many around 60 or so. About two-thirds of them were killed with my old Remington 870 Wingmaster, smoothbore, 2 3/4" chamber, and el cheapo Winchester one ounce slugs.

I think most hunters here in Ontario know that shotguns plus slugs equals meat on the table. I do run into folks who try to use buckshot at stupid ranges, like over 20 yards kind of thing, but that breed of hunter is slowly dwindling. "I know I hit her, she was just over by that tree about fifty yards. But we tracked her all night and never found her."

So what was the purpose of this thread, other than show-casing really rotten spellers???? :runaway:

I am in full agreement to both of your statements Doug. I get real pushy about Brennekes, but truth be told....about 95% of the wild boar I personally seen would have easily fallen to cheap, reliable, Winchester 1 oz lead slug.

But Mr Big & Ugly weighed about 350 lb, and I wished not to be caught fumbling with a shell change at the worst possible moment.

PS Some people should always use spellcheck....:D
