Question in overall length.

I don't know what the measurement is, but have been told, and am going by the understanding that, when running a 14" factory barrel, the shotgun has to have standard buttstock affixed. A folder or anything shorter (pistol grip), and it becomes too short (< 26") to be non-restricted.
Again, I don't know how they actually measure out, but I believe an 18" barrel with folder is as short as that can go.

It would be tough I think to get it with a folder. Can definitely go shorter than the factory stock though. The raptor grip is enough. This one was 26.5”
From memory it needs to be 25 inches overall to be nr. And you can cut a factory barrel down to 18 inches regardless. So say the dominion outlaw has 12" factory barrels the oal still has to be 25 inches. The length is the length you can fire the gun. If you can fire the gun with the stock folded then that is oal and needs to be 25 inches. Someone correct me if Im wrong

Those are completely fine... it's the way the law was written.
Prohibited right from the rcmp website:
- A rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make it less than 660 mm (26 inches) in overall length.
- A rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 457 mm (18 inches) where the overall firearm length is 660 mm (26 inches) or more
Those two you mentioned are not altered, they are manufactured that way... completely legal. But you cut your barrel down to 17 inches... straight to jail.
restricted firearm means
- (a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
- (b)a firearm that
- (i) is not a prohibited firearm,
- (ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
- (iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
- (c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
- (d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm; (arme à feu à autorisation restreinte)
MiG25 is correct, overall length is by itself as section (c), but barrel length is talked about as part of (b), notice the "and" meaning ii and iii are together for semi auto centerfire. (Not rimfire)
The OP is saying that he has a factory 14 inch barrel!

OP ... an 870 with a 14 barrel and a pistol grip would be restricted and because it does not meet overall length requirements.
An 870 with a shockwave Raptor grip and 14 inch barrel has enough length to be non restricted (I measured mine).
I would assume that an 870 with 14 inch barrel and a pistol grip folding stock would be shorter than 660 mm and therefore be restricted.
My Tac 14 measures 663 mm ... and is non restricted...

A mare's Leg is factory made to that length and cannot be collapsed/folded etc.... It's basically a "technically correct" definition, so any gun that can be folded/telescoped or otherwise to shorter than 26" is restricted.
I can't directly answer the OP about the remington, but a 14" Benelli supernova is about 1/4" too short, I have considered making a top folding stock and putting a big sling stud at the back to push it over 26"....
Since the 870 has a screw at the back for the pistol grip, you might be able to get away with an extra inch or so by attaching or getting a custom extended screw with a sling ring that sticks strait back out???? Don't know if that would be enough

Thanks. What I am asking is if the factory reminton top folder in a tac 14 is under 660mm or not.
My top folder is not here yet to measure (bought online) and wondering if I will be able to run it on just my 18” police, or if it can go on the tac 14.
I have never measured a top folder ... but from the pictures that I have seen ... it is too short to meet minimum overall lenght requirements with a 14 inch barrel. With a 14 inch barrel it would be restricted. With an 18 inch barrel it will be non restricted.

I tried the same thing with a mossberg shockwave and a choate top folder.
Maybe a go if you add a longer mag extension or a breecher choke.
