kifaru universal gun bearer

The K4 Exo carrier looks to be a better design then the one I have (K2 posted above). The K2 variant is great for a longer walk/hike in or pack out somewhere, but forget trying to get at it quickly. It fits rather snug on the butt pad/heel of the rifles I’ve had in it (R700 & VG2) even after attempting to stretch it out off season by keeping it on a rifle in the safe.

If I were going to replace mine anytime soon it would be something along the line of the K4 pouch design.
I’ve had/have the SG, EXO K4 and the Kif Gunbearer systems. None of them are perfect IMO. I like the K4 the most, but depending on how the pack is loaded I can’t get the rifle of without removing the pack. Just my personal shoulder mobility limits I guess. I’m going to experiment with putting the SG top strap on the EXO pack. That might be the perfect combo.

Personally, I hated the Gunbearer.

9/10 I just end up strapping it to the pack sans carrier. I can usually reach the top strap of the pack and undo the clasp, then it’s just a matter of pulling up and out of the bottom clasp/compression strap.

Edit

I’m using the cinch/compression straps on the bag to keep the rifle in place basically.

Yessir. I’ve done that in the past as well. I love how secure the rifle is when in climbing. But, unlike you, I don’t have a prayer of reaching that top strap with the pack on. Haha.

And with all the grizzlies we have here, I really prefer quick access to my rifle. That has led to trying out the various systems. Still looking for the perfect one…

Well, I don’t have to worry bout Grizzlies here. Maybe an angry Mama Black with her cubs at best.

If your K4 system isn’t working for you & needs or wants a new home, shoot me a message.

I like the kifaru gun bearer. Its simple and keeps the rifle easily and quickly accessible. I like to remove the rifle before taking my pack off and setting it down. Its weakness for me is during steep descents your head naturally tilts forward and if the rifle sways laterally the barrel bonks you in the head. This is easily solved by wearing a ball cap, the barrel hits the brim. As someone pointed out, if you bend forward or are behind someone on a steep ascent the muzzle direction can be an issue.

Best carry method is still a folding stock rifle strapped to the pack and totally out of the way. But thats slow into action. I also dont like having a gun strapped to the pack when I take it off and put it down.
