Rossi LWC single shot

Yeah the Rossi uses a system like most H&R, Cooey etc single shots.
It’s great for low bolt thrust stuff like shotgun or most pistol calibers. Don’t know how I feel about rifle cartridges in it.

Apprently even the handy rifles have the issues I’m talking of Never looked into it much but they stretch over time. This is because of bolt thrust and having a single locking point or “bite”.
I have seen someone use a 7.62x39 adapter in one of them cheap folding shotguns and after a few rounds it was done and he blamed the adapter not the gun he used it in.

I’m old enough to remember the handi rifles for their worth $150-$200 the outrageous prices they are now are flat out not worth it same goes for stuff like this and or the Henry singles. If I was to grab one I’d buy a pistol caliber .357 or .45 colt as it looks to be a 12ga sized action.

This pin is all that pushes on the extractor, to pull the round out.

The extractor has alot of wiggle.
Thanks for the great pictures.

Again, high grade stainless steel or even some carbide alloy for the shell ejection components. After all, if a lowly screwdriver can pry a stuck 7.62x39 steel case out of a Chaszel adapter, Rossi can engineer an ejector that will do the exact same thing, don't you think?

Actually rossi made one on thier old steel action..

R762MBS

Obviously it didn't sell well as its been discontinued for years.

Thanks very much!

Was that rifle sold in this country?

I think an old fashioned "revival", in one form or another, of that model would be a big success for Rossi, especially in OIC Land.

Thanks again.

I barely heard anything about them here.

Doubt they will. If it was successful. They still be making it. But that model came out late 2000s.

Single shots always been a niche market. Now alot are more than bolt actions. Then if you search the forum, there is hardly any talks about Rossi 762x39.

A barrel for my TC contender is over 700$ now.

I’d be cautious as to what is locking the gun especially in rifle calibers.

Most pistol calibers have less bolt thrust then 12ga .44 mag has just slightly more.
Just about every rifle caliber has more bolt thrust then 12ga.
A typical break action single shot doesn’t have much for lock up this can lead to the gun coming loose off face at some point or worse.
Things like the CVAs and Henry's come in 308win. Hell the CVAs come in 35 whelen, as well as 444 marlin which is basically a 51k psi oversized 44mag.

I wouldn't be worried about pressure. I wouldn't go beyond saami spec like many of us do in bolt guns, but regular loads shouldn't be an issue.

It’s not pressure it’s both thrust. Conservative way to measure its is max pressure times area of the cartridge rim.
A single lug is not strong enough to hold pressure of any rifle round and it will stretch at the pivot point and become loose off face it is problem of the H&R/NEF guns.

Single lugs work in shotgun and low pressure cartridges but stuff like that .44 mag have more bolt thrust then a 12ga.

That’s said these single shots are not worth what people are asking for them I could think of countless other guns I’d spend the money on $800 for a used NEF vs $600 for a new savage.

I seen a guy locally trying to sell a 30/30 with a cheap turkish single shot. I was like wow a hand grenade waiting to happen. That is why Chaszel says to use SB1 or Encore. To avoid liability.

The adapter tells you if you want to keep the adapter in to add more o rings and notch out the adapter so it skips the extractor. Well doing so the rounds can slap back. That is how I damaged the first. Then my 2nd reciever. I removed the part that ejects. So there is a little spring pressure. That solved the issue. But with the massive firing pin, it really destroyed primers.

People don’t listen to instructions or safety warnings. Most pistol calibers work just fine.

And yes large firing pins can be a problem especially with rifle pressures.

So switches to a SB1 H&R 20 ga. But the accuracy was meh. Equal to shooting 38spl WC from my 357 rem max TC barrel.

The Rossi 357 is pretty accurate. Def will do what I intend to use it for. Def interested in doing more testings at 50 and 100 yards.

"My wife wants to block me from this site...."

Rifle arrived today and she said "What's that?" Looking forward to getting a scope on it and doing some test firing with it. It's just what I wanted in a short light carbine to carry when checking baits and trail cameras, and I can use it in a spot where the municipality allows us to hunt coyotes with straight walled pistol cartridges.

Will post an initial review on it when I get a chance, probably won't be doing anything at the range for a while as waist deep in snow right now.

Double check the mount screws before you mount the rings.
