Africa, caliber choices?

I'm thinking of picking up an extra round floor plate from Alaska Arms for my Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby.

Anyone have one and can comment?

I would contact them first and make sure it will fit your RSM. I thought the floorplates were for standard-length cartridges only, but I could be wrong.

I think the Alaskan Arms floor plate is for standard magnum calibers? Wouldn't that be for the 375 H&H, 416 Rigby & 458 Lott that they were made in?

I took it to mean "standard length", like .375 & .416 Ruger, 300 & 7mm Mag, etc.

I have the Alaska Arms Coffin Magplates on a couple rifles, they work great on standard and standard magnum actions, not sure he makes them for true Magnum lengrh actions... the coffin mags did not work on my .375 WSM, the case is just a smidgen to wide. No issue on my 7 RM or .458 WM.

Depends what size plains game you want to hunt. Not much left over of a Springbuck, Duiker, Steenbok, Bushbuck, Impala and Blesbuck once you've hit it at fairly close range with a 375 H&H or a 7mm Mag.....

I go back home to hunt often, and a 30-06/308/7x64/7x57 is plenty enough for everything except Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo etc. But then I do love shooting my 375 H&H.

But based on what I've read from others, I thought that using a solid from a .375 on smaller antelopes works fine, even on the Tiny Ten. They apparently go right through and kill effectively without undue hide or meat damage. Is your experience different?

Never hunted africa, just a few visits. If I ever make it back there with a rifle or two they would most certainly be chambered in 375 h&h and 416 Rigby. The only other consideration would be the 275 Rigby in honor of Karamojo Bell.

If you don’t mind two loads , the Rigby can be loaded to shoot like a 270 with light bullets. More guns usually means more fun though.

More than enough for the ranges I will be shooting at. As per the outfitter I've chosen, shots will be limited to under 200yds.

Selection of caliber was 300 Weatherby and 270 Win.
No issues whatsoever.

This is an old thread but just for the fun of it, I'm taking my 9.3x57 loaded with 250gr TTSX when I go in 2028.

Not so far different from the .350 Rem Mag Carbine, with 250 grain Partitions, that I am bringing in April. I am also bringing a 6.5 Rem Mag with 140 Accubonds.
