To do: I will post some pic here if someone would like to see them.

I learned of this item from another CGN post in this forum. Since I have a Mossberg FLEX pistol grip stock this item ended up being rather handy. This item basically replaces the factory slide release lever. It might not be that import for factory stock but once you switched over to a pistol grip you will notice that the slide release is kinda hard to get to once a pistol grip is installed.

In order to have this working you have to go through an installation process. You can use this link before for reference:

Or this one for Mav88

However, what I found is that, unlike the top video that he basically took everything apart, you can actually install this lever without ever taking out the trigger lever and the parts attached to it (which mean less things to screw up). Mind you that this is from the Mav88 experience but I checked the Youtube vid and found the difference is very small. All you need to do is to take out

1) the hammer plunger + spring

2) the hammer

3) the factory slide release with the front spring and leave the back spring intact by not releasing the whole pin.

There is also no need to touch the safety whether you have a 500/590 type or the Mav88 type (I do wish I can replace the safety on my 88 for a bigger + metallic one)

So the steps are

1) take out the short pin at the back of the trigger group (see the 2nd video's first step). Then release the hammer plunger spring, plunger and the bar that attach to the hammer. ( to put that back on you just need to #### the hammer, insert the bar and put the spring and plunger back on, hold it with a punch and then slide the pin back).

2) take out the hammer by releasing the pin.

3) unhook the back spring on the slide release bar, move the pin that holding the slide release half way so just enough to take out the slide release and the front spring (no choice since the front spring will come off and your sear can now be down, fix it later).

4) Now carefully take out the slide release completely without moving anything else. If you screw up the worst case is that your back spring on the slide release bar will come loose. Not the end of the world. Take pictures before you do this step so you know how to put the back spring in. Please note that the back spring is different between the Mav88 and Mossberg 500 and 590. Mav88 back spring only has half the spring while the 500 has thicker spring but the idea is the same as they both go under the release lever and hook back up the lever.

5) Put in the new slide release then hook up the front spring and you have to now do the trickiest part which is to line up the holes for the pin. Use a punch to guide you. When you think you got it all lined up slide the half pull pin back. Remember that the front spring will push against the sear. So make sure your sear is reset properly. After that hook the back spring on the release lever. If you have done everything right you can start seeing the whole release working already.

6) put the hammer back on then the hammer bar and spring and plunger then put back the first pin you took up.

7) Test function of the trigger group. Just hold the hammer and don't let it swing forward freely when pressing the trigger. If everything done right it should feel exactly like the factory trigger group. Watch for the pin sliding out. I found that the pins do move if you play around with the hammer too much. Push them back in before they slide off and keep an eye on the pins.

8) Before you put everything together completely you must check clearance between the new slide release against the pistol grip. I found mine a bit too close and end up scratching up the pistol grip. So I trimmed off a bit of the pistol grip on the side so that the release lever can move freely. Make sure you test it with dummies. You might have to repeat the check and grinding a bit. If everything works right off then congratz.

You are pretty much done. You might wanna do some polishing of the new release lever before putting it on. I found the edges a bit rough but in my case I already installed it so I took off the FLEX stock and polished it a bit.

The installation is not really that bad and the Mossberg shotgun trigger group is nowhere near to as complicated as what some people said. It is in fact pretty simple as long as you take notes before pulling it apart.

I hope this helps. If you thinking of installing one but worry about taking the trigger group apart then you might (should) reconsider it.

I ordered mine straight from Shoten back in the day, and will be ordering another couple after the holidays now that I see they're back in stock.
Which variation do you recommend ordering? Short, long, or the 45 degree version? I've never seen the lever in person, so having a hard time judging what's best.

I found a good video,
, I'm thinking of getting the regular "long" version.

I've got the long arm in my 590A1 with a Hogue grip, the tab sits right over the first knuckle of my thumb.

It does get in the way for anyone shooting left-handed, so if you're south paw, get the shorter levers.
