Hey gang

New username since I can't recover my old one, but old user here. Stupidly sold all my hunting/shooting gear 15yrs ago and of course now regretting it. Wanting to get back into the game, but I'm very frustrated at this point. It seems like nothing is available any more.

I'm ideally looking for a full stock rifle w/open sights...preferably Sauer 404 Stutzen or Mannlicher SM12, but I can't find these frickin anywhere. Back in the day full stocks w/irons were more available, Sako, CZ was making them along with others, but it seems they've completely disappeared. I see Voere is available from Sporteque, but other than that I see no options in Canada.

Does anyone else make fullstocks these days? Or anyone have a line on a new 404 or SM12? Not too picky on calibers since most of these come in pretty useful sizes. In the perfect world I suppose 8x57 would be awesome but TBD. It would be nice to find a .22LR full stock too, but looks like CZ etc quit making them too.

*sigh*

yeah I've clicked a few, will check the rest.

If I can't find a Stutzen I "could" get a half stock, but finding a Blaser R8 classic (nice!) also seems impossible. First world problems. I do still have an inherited Lee Enfield Mk 3 full stock .303 I could pull out of the closet for some plinking, but def not comparable to what I used to have.

There’s a couple Ruger m77 RSI full stocks listed on the exchange right now. A 7mm stainless Mauser and a blued 270 win that may be of interest to you. Frequently see 308s popping up too

Too bad. Your mistake makes itself apparent in the use of "wanting to get back in the game."
I know it's a figure of speech you are using, but to insightful people, gun ownership is extremely important. Vastly more important than a hobby, sport or pass time.

Go fill up on what little remains on the open, legal market right away and learn from your mistake.

ruger m77 full stocks are pretty available and very nice

Thanks for the tips everyone. Agreed that Steyr .22LR is pretty sweet looking, and the couple in the EE are also pretty sweet. From the looks of clubs around ON withing GTA driving distance I better secure a membership somewhere before moving on any of these though. Every club seems to be full. Wow frustrating, should have kept up my membership at the old place.

Hey Matt... don't beat yourself up about this stuff. Things change. Priorities and obligations change. This is experience. It allows you to have more focus to do things better than last time, better than before. Don't feel you have to get everything back all at once, becuase you don't. Prioritize your needs and wants, and pursue the ones most important to you.
Put good thoughts out and get great results back.
Been there before... many times.

We should be happy for him, not admonishing him for what was likely a reasoned choice made in the context of 15 years past. The Prodigal Son's father rejoiced instead of chewing his son's ass off when he ruturned.
