I usually don’t even look at the change I get back so if they gave me too much I never would notice unless it was completely obvious like they gave me a 20 back instead of a five, it could go the other way too if I was supposed to get 10 bucks back but they give me 5 I prob wouldn’t notice
I don’t try to deliberately cheat someone or a business out of money but nobody is perfect and mistakes happen
In some places if a teller or waitress Fs up they get deducted from their wages the amount that they screwed up which I don’t agree with, some of those people have enough troubles getting by as it is
At the gun show I bought a rifle and gave the person 20 bucks over the price mistakenly and they were honest enough to point it out and give it back to me
There is still some good folks out there
 
As for the OPs deal, individual stores can charge whatever they want - like a franchise. May have been clearing 'old stock' - some people think ammo 'goes bad' after a couple years. I got some 'Double Tap' .223 Ballistic Tip for ca $20 a couple years ago - it was the last 2-boxes and they were Not replacing it.
 
A lot of large retail places have limits for how long something can be in inventory before it gets cleared out. 1 year is pretty common. Some places even dumpster anything that gets to the 1 year mark - my buddy used to work at a big box in the mall and when anything hit 11 months it went on clearance for 90% off. I have so many $1.50 Nalgene bottles lol.

At a certain point the shelf space becomes worth more than the product taking up the space. My local CT has random ammo on clearance all the time. Usually expensive options and/or obscure calibers. Almost bought some 45colt recently because it was so cheap, and no, I don't own anything in 45colt.

Your actions in your story (if true) equate to theft. The theft occurred from a store. Thats shoplifting in my book and just so you know, i will never buy or sell something from you now that I know you brag about being a thief.

Imagine that poor young girl in your story (if true) getting chewed out by her manager for having a huge discrepancy in her till float.

Nice guy. Not the kind of thing i like to brag about.

I prefer to brag to my 7yr old that the nice lady gave me too much change so I went back into the store and gave her 5$ back.

When he asks why I get to say “because its the right thing to do”.

I think thats better for me, for him, and the world than telling him “that silly girl gave me too much change, sucker!!”

Nobody should agree with that, it's straight up theft. Wage theft is as big a problem as retail theft, yet it's not even a criminal offense in this country...

If she rang in the wrong product how would she have a discrepancy?

Eventually the store will notice a discrepancy in their inventory, but they most likely won't be able to pin that on the cashier.

Doing the right thing is great, and I applaud you for that. It's too damn bad we live in an economic system where lying stealing and cheating is rewarded with power and riches while those who "do the right thing" get ####ed at every turn.

No, it was not theft.
"The poor young girl" had no discrepancy in her float as that type of computer error would not register until the store completed an audit, and only if the audit was conducted in such a manor that it was accurate enough to register / reconcile the accounting of goods received v. goods sold.

Regardless, it wasn't her error, it was the store's error by having the same SKU for a 50 round box as they had for a 500 round brick.
It wasn't my job nor did I have a duty of care to point out the store's computer error.


I'm glad you go around defending the bottom line of multi-national corporations, and looking out for their threadbare shareholders, that is genuinely touching, and right around the holiday season too.

Shoplifting is stealing an item without paying.

Sku came up with a price. They didn't want to correct it. Thus you paid what was scanned. Happened to me cashier nor the supervisor did not care. It was like what it is coming up as.

You are describing a completely different circumstance than the one I was responding to. I agree the circumstance you describe is not theft.
 
I am waiting for one crappy tire to put a rifle on sale, it has been there for over 5 years without a price reduction. I have $800 in crappy tire money ready to go for it if they even drop the price lol

Be careful with those old Nalgene bottles.... although I did hear a recent report on a study from Stanford where they think that estrogen might be the reason women were not suffering more from increased myocarditis from the mRNA products at the same level that young men have been.

Not sure if the BPA’s ability to mimic estrogen would provide protection, probably safer to simply avoid the mRNA products until the lab coats figure out what the problem is exactly.... and hopefully tell us.

Google tells me Nalgene switched to BPA free in 2008. I don't think any of mine are quite that old but thanks for the heads up, didn't even consider it.

Price must have been CRAZY when it was first put on the shelf if the last 5 years of price increases on everything else STILL hasn't made it a good deal lol

Deathrawt makes a good point. Especially if it's a franchise store and not a corporate store the General Manager might be willing to make a deal.

I think the issue was likely a bit over blown, I was using Nalgenes early on and have still maintained my "toxic masculinity".... :)

That said I was in my 20's and never made tea in them.... just cool water hiking and ski touring..... and to be honest I've always had a healthy relationship with my feminine side. The spectrum is real, just not quite what it's been exploited to be.
 
I cleaned out my local CT of their entire stock of Hornady SST’s in 30cal, 165gr bullets. They were getting out of reloading supplies. $49.99, reg price discounted at 40% off. Got 5 100ct boxes.

About a year ago.... crappy thing is now there are rumours that BC will be outlawing all use of lead bullets for hunting. Following California and New York state. I have about 1000 SST's in various different calibers and weights.

if that comes to pass you’d still be able to use them on the range to hone your skills or just have fun. I assume you were not planning harvesting 1000 animals :)
