So, if these can be exported from the US, Who is going to be bringing them in? When and how much?

It is promising for export in that already they have a fixed stock ACR model available. I just hope we can buy folding stocks and extra barrels after the fact.

It takes regular AR-15 barrels so I don't imagine there'd be much trouble getting those up here, and swapping them only takes 30 seconds.

Interesting. Wolverine chose not to stock shorter XCR replacement barrels because they didn't want some fool screwing up the importability of these rifles if that fool got caught swapping a restricted length barrel onto a non-restricted rifle without reregistering the firearm. With the U.S. export restrictions on standalone barrels, I'm not sure if Wolverine even could get the short barrels anymore so that point is kinda moot, but I wonder if Wolverine will chose to not import the ACR because of the AR barrel interchangability? Then again, I wonder if the CFC will classify the ACR as an AR derivative because of the barrel interchangability. As far as I know, the CFC doesn't have any legislation to follow in determining what constitutes a variant....

So now my previous post is largely reduced to meaningless babble.

With enough work from a gunsmith, lots of things could accept modified AR parts. That doesn't make them AR's or AR variants. I think that most of us could come up with a laundry list of different rifles (and shotguns) that can be modified to accept at least some AR parts. Many of those modifications don't require a gunsmith's attention. I'd say that as long as you can't interchange receiver groups then there's enough of a difference that it shouldn't be a variant.

Of course, this is a common sense statement. There's nothing assuring us that what we see as common sense will be part of the criteria for determining the status of the Masada/ACR.

We can only hope that the difference in appearance, the lack of direct lineage, and the fundamental difference in design and function will keep the Masada/ACR design unrestricted as long as it has an appropriate barrel length.

Although it'd be nice to have an XCR with a couple different barrel lengths, I can absolutely see where Wolverine is coming from. A good part of the appeal of the XCR is the fact that it's non-restricted, and it would only take a couple examples of people doing inappropriate barrel swaps to start raising red flags with CFC and the RCMP. That would hurt Wolverine financially and hurt existing XCR owners as well.

Its not for sale in the US yet, so wait 1 full year after it is and maybe it will be here. Might I also recommend waiting until they get all the bugs worked out in the production version, since after all these Amerian rifles seem to always have teething issues.

Second quarter 2008 for civilian models is what the press releases have been saying. About a year probably sounds correct before it's in Canada.

Non restricted, varmint model is my primary interest. Something that the current AR varmint rifles should be .

Also I'd like to see some independant reviews on it. The one I read was pretty crappy in Guns and Ammo magazine. I was very disapointed with that review. Then of course there is the unbaised "former Navy Seal" review. Which while entertaining means squat.

I sure wish 16" barrels were considered sporting.

yeah no kidding. Would make a whole lot more guns unrestricted. but alas 2 more inches will "save the children"

The ACR/MASADA seems to be doing good, but i wouldn't buy one till they had a bit more "open testing" (aka, civie sales"). As Scarecrow said, teething issues are almost garaunteed.

I dont think the barrel thing will affect it. From what it looks like, it apparears they used an Ar15 profiled barrel, but the whole gas block area is gonna be entirely different. It would probably be easy to manufactor ACR barrels if your already tooled up to make AR15 barrels, but i doubt they're interchangeable. (i have been proved wrong many times before tho)
