Hi all,

Well, know I know what a disassembled 10/22 looks like.
I just replaced the extractor and I figure while I am waiting for my Buffer I may as well clean her up real good. I have read that polishing the internals makes for a smoother ride. Can anyone recommend a site or give me some info as to what I should be polishing? I checked out Rimefire central...anyone?

Cheers

It's a reliable semi auto... Does it work fine now?

If it does work fine now, what are you trying to accomplish ?

I just took mine apart, used some steel wool, and then a dremel with polishing compound and buffing wheel. Had a mirror finish by the time I was done.

Nope, Never was smooth running in the first place. It always seemed to stovepipe. I figure since I have it all apart I may as well see what can be done. Bolt release and extractor replaced and buffer on the way. Just wanna try to smooth it up without putting more $$ into it. Not looking for a target Rifle, just a fun reliable plinker.

Cheers

Snausages; When I was "tuning" my 10/22 I polished the seer, hammer, disconnecter and trigger plunger. To do this I used 1000 grit sandpaper fist I think and then got polishing compound and used the felt wheel. It worked real nicely :)

mine already had an aftermarket trigger in it so I never touched any of that. Just polished the entire inside of the reciever. To be honest I don't really feel that there was much of a difference but it was a fun project.

To help

eliminate stove piping and make the 10/22 function smoother the best modification is to radius the rear of the bolt then polish it to a mirror like finish.

While at it polish the hammer where it slides against the radiused part of the bolt and it ends up being SSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SWEET you may even end up Pe---g your pants........................

Another EXCELLENT mod is to replace the trigger reset spring and plunger with the bobby pin trick. Check out RimFire Central under 1022 actions and search for "bobby pin". You basically remove the plunger and spring located behind the trigger in the trigger guard with a spring you make from a bobby pin. This bobby pin gets placed into the action from above the trigger assembly. I believe there are pictures at RFC that will show you the complete mod
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167898. It really helps reduces your trigger pull alot.
