I just bought a Ruger 10/22 off a fellow CGN. He did some modifications & best of all, it's unfired!!! I am really looking forward to shooting this rifle!!!

What do you guys think of the setup? Any hints, suggestions? What scope would you put on it? I was thinking of a fixed 4 power scope...

Here are the details of the rifle...

(1) A new and unfired Ruger 10-22

(2) An extended magazine release installed.

(3) A Bone Grey Revival industries Explorer aftermarket stock.

(4) A Tactical Solutions 16 1/2 " Fluted bull barrel with the threaded end option and a Tactical Solutions Compensator installed, with the thread protector ring, so I can take off the compensator.

(5) A Volquartsen Ruger 10/22 Receiver Scope Mount

(6) Scope rings.

(7) 1 factory magazine & a Ruger Lock

P.S. Why is it that you can't fire CCI Stingers or other High Velocity ammo out of the Tactical Solutions barrels?

You got it for a heck of a deal.If you dont like the Tactical solutions compensator and might want to get rid of it let me know.:)

That, along with a Yellow Jacket bolt buffer were going to be my only other mods to the rifle.

I'll get the parts for another soon enough....Ebay is your friend...:evil:
 
It is a nice unit and it was a good deal, but I don't need 3 of them!!!
BTW if your getting a bolt buffer get one of the ones that Neonbee just made up and let us know how they work out??

Nice rifle and nice price. I just ordered the new Winchester Target/Varmint .22 with a heavy bull barrel. I have a 4-16x50 mil dot to mount plus a set of bipods. There is always fun in small calibres and very cheap. Enjoy your sport.
 
A couple other questions...

(1) What BULK ammo should I blast g-hogs with... What have you guys had good luck with???

(2) What about doing the modification to the trigger group to make it an "auto bolt release"??? I "think" that's the right terminology?...

I have same barrel and VQ internals and drive nails at 25 yds indoors with Winchester PowerPoints , cant wait for snow to melt.

I like the auto bolt release mod and it's easy enough to do. A VQ auto bolt release costs $23 new so even if you screw up modifying the factory part it's not going to cost you big dollars to replace it.

I live in a very dry climate where things take forever to rust. I was worried about paint flaking off and gumming things up in the trigger area so I just oiled the filed edge instead of trying to spray paint it. I believe the factory and aftermarket parts are powder coated.

Do you normally shoot yours off of sandbags? I've heard that the aluminum barrels are very quick to point, but the light weight also makes them hard to hold steady on target.

Yup sandbags / rolled up blanket / or a lil tripod we rigged up .
works great i dont notice any prob holding on POA :)

Sorry - I worded that poorly. They're regarded as a very accurate barrel and they work fine off of a rest, but if you use one on a carry rifle (shooting offhand), then they are supposedly harder to hold steady because they are so light. I had a carbon fiber barrel on a 10-22 awhile back and found that to be the case, but I also had a synthetic stock on mine so that probably just made things worse.
