Glass & mounts for HW 95

Hey guys,

After some research, I think I have set my heart upon an HW 95 in .22. I will be using it for pest control at reasonable distances primarily and target shooting as far as I dare.

I've been shooting a Cometa 300 for a couple of years and its been great, I had forgotten how fun air rifles can be. Now I want to try something new. I want to stick with a springer, I have no time or want to develop infrastructure for PCP (yet lol)

I'd like to get your opinion on glass and mounts for this. Was wavering between Hawke Airmax 3-9x40, 4-12x40 or 4-12x50. Early preference is the 4-12x40.

I'm thinking medium 2 piece match mounts. You guys have any preference for 2 piece or 1 piece mounts? I want something solid.

The HW95 is and excellent choice. So are the Hawke scopes as they are airgun rated and reasonably affordable.

A lot of springer shooters prefer one-piece mounts but two piece rings can do the job too. Make sure that whatever rings are chosen that they have a stop pin to engage the divot on the top of the receiver. This prevents the scope from moving as spring piston air rifles have significant recoil.

Thank you sir - they are the same price - I'll try the 1 piece (with the stop pin). DO you have any issues with adjustability in the 1 piece? ie. for eye relief, etc?

I just mounted a new Airmax on my RWS 34. One of my one piece mounts would not work as there is not a lot of distance between the objective bells on the Airmax. I am awaiting a new TX 200 and will be using 2 piece Sportmatch mounts for added flexibility. These mounts have recoil pins so should be solid enough.

Thanks! That is how I have the scope mounted on the Cometa (2 piece), and wondered if I should go for something a bit more sturdy on the HW. I’m not too hard on equipment, but things happen.
