15 minutes with a random orbital sander would clean it up nicely.....
Also you should look at imbeding some rare earth magnets to replace the velcro for the extra mag well.
Lee Valley sells them and they are cheap, come in several sizes and very powerful.

The metal butt plates (hinged plate and and the fixed one with the tool compartment) are quite heavy, removing them will significantly change the ballance of the stock. You can notice how heavy the butt is when you have the stock off the rifle.

Oh, of course! My brain was out for repairs that day.

I actually thought of the magnets. I just had some velcro on hand. If I was going to go out and buy materials to make it, I would probably get strong magnets as you mentioned.

As for all the comments about the lack of sanding...it was my first project with truck bed liner and I really thought it was going to go on very thick and cover all that up. If I refinish it, then a good sanding it will get, and I'm sure with some flat paint it would be much less offensive to the eye. Sure is comforable though...

I would suggest using rare earth magnets from lee valley sink a couple of them in the but and ditch the Velcro. that way you can stick any mag in there and the Velcro wont get dirty and full of crap.

Oh geez. I wasn't going to say anything. (If you don't have anything nice to say.....) But that stock is just way to freaking ugly. As a carpenter/wood worker I would probably do the work on that stock for free just to make it look better and not have to look at it. You would be amazed what a small planer and some sandpaper can accomplish. Or even at the least some sand paper. I've done a couple of guns and it isn't that difficult to make them nice.

That being said..... I appreciate an inventive mind. If you smoothed out the design a little that stock would be pretty cool.

He set out to do it himself, and cheaply. Goals met.

As far as further finishing goes, it would probably take more away from this project than add to it.

I think some quality time with a rottweiler chewing on the stock and you're done!
