I just received 100 Starline brass, chambered in the 25-06 for my new build. I decided to clean the flash-holes with my manual reimer. I tried the 25 Cal. mandrel in the neck of the case, it would not fit. I then tried a couple of other cases, still didn't fit. (tight necks) I then full length resized it and tried the mandrel again, results were perfect.

I resized 50 cases and will continue the remainging 50 tomorrow. This is not a complaint, only a FYI. They appear to be nice brass however, I haven't given it the full consistent measurements test, weight and length size.

If I went ahead and developed loads without noticing the tight necks; pressure, velocity and accuracy would be most inconsistent from further developments.

Hey guys…I bought 250 cases of 6.5CM (large primer) and just ran them AS IS into my Dillon 550. Did a pile with Speer 90gTNT and a bunch with 123g Hornady SST, both loads fuelled by Varget. All 3 HB Tikkas do 1/2MOA @ 100 yards. So impressed with the brass and redults that I bought an additional 1000 pieces. Figure I’ll get at least 6-8 reloads from this lot before I have to think about trimming case length. I’m running about 1.5g below book maxs so not balls to the walls. Initially, I was sceptical about all the glowing reports of Starline brass but personal testing has impressed me, it’s not that far behind Lapua brass, which is my ultimate benchmark.

I've had the odd dented case mouth but they're packaged in a bag so cant expect them to not get dented. I've had great experience with starline brass
Im not a good enough shooter to see a difference in brands of brass but starline seems to stay shiner longer

How do you find the length of the cases after sizing? I have an assortment of once fired brass and it varies quite a bit from brand to brand. Winchester I have found to be the best/longest for consistency.

Shooting a 7mm mauser is becoming a task to try and find brass.

UPDATE
I completed the remainder of the 100 brass cases by, resizing, reaming the flash-holes, deburring and chamfering the case mouths. After that was complete, I placed them in the RCBS Vibratory cleaner for 2 hours. Purpose for cleaning is that, I lube the inside of the neck when resizing, media cleans all the case lube.

I then measured 25 cases and all were within .001" of length. I weighed 25 cases, all were within 1.5 grains. Well, I have no complaints, I'm most pleased with the outcome!

Once my build is complete, the anticipation will be like a child waiting for Christmas morning.

Ive used starline with very consistent inspections for defects. I do the same for all brass I buy or have shot and going to reload. I can say that new Nosler brass falls short of quality.

Good on u Track ! Proper RELOADING practices Caught the problem ! Guys who load brass right from the box need to revisit “ Learn to Hand Load properly 101 “ 👍😊

There’s no brass “Ready for loading from the factory.” At minimum the neck should be lubed and an expander run thru for consistency and removing dents/imperfections. Then inside/ outside deburred/chamferred. Now cleaned to remove lube( as mentioned). This is minimum in my opinion and I personally do many more steps. Hunting ammo not so much. I’ve had great experience with Lapua but recently bought a bunch of 6BR Peterson. I only bought it to neck down for 22BR and thought it would avoid getting the 6 and the 22 mixed up if I inadvertently cleaned some together. Seems to be great quality but time will tell!

Every piece of new factory brass that I have ever loaded has been treated like once fired, it get's the full monty on the bench before ever being fired, I would be interested to find out if new brass get's the full monty at the factory before becoming new factory ammunition

Edit: I should say that I have used a lot of starline brass and it's good, Nosler to me is over priced and no better than starline

And in a sense it's not really my brass until it's coming back from its first trip to the range. On first firing new brass is still on probation!

I was always told to run a F/L resize of any new to me brass.....
Good to hear someone passing on some first hand experience as a reminder though.
Tight Groups with your new brass and gun combo.

Another one who now does a F/L resize on any new brass, if even only to even out the case mouth. Most "new" brass will have been loose packaged in bags/boxes and will have many cases with oval case mouths. I also inspect all cases for any manufacturing defects. I also check for case length. I ran the case below though a F/L die, it did not remove the imperfection.... case was sent to the trash. All thanks to advice from RJ....

50000 psi straighten that right out lol

Starline Fan Boy here . Use that stuff on every thing :) Some will get the pun.
Back in the Day Winchester was my go to brass as it was readily available . Still using it in 1 Caliber .
Using Straline in .308 - 6.5cm . I think both calibers a somewhat easy on brass and have some of each that have been shoulder bumped 9 times with no signs of failure . I do anneal every reload and trim on 3rd or 4th firing but not much .
Recently took delivery of 6 Dasher slinger and am using Peterson cases. Only have 4 reloads on some batches and very impressed with it . Probably would have went with Starline but as of today they do not manufacture it in 6 Dasher.
Also just took delivery of Peterson brass in 7mm LONG ( My OLD Winchester is Brass is starting to get shot out ) Spent a part of yesterday prepping cases and loaded them with Winchester HD . Its the first time using this powder so it will be interesting how it preforms compared to my Very Old stock of IMR 4350 that I have used for 40 + years :) Looks like a big temperature swing coming for the first part of February and hope to get out and send rounds down range on steel . Hope to have a buddy to join me for some steel ringing :giggle:

Starline is my goto, mostly because they make brass that no one else does, in some cases.

And the price is good. PRVI is my backup choice

But, yeah - new stuff of any make needs FL size and chamfer, if only to straighten out case mouths.
