Talk to me about the front sight post. ^^^

I have a 1970's Wingmaster with a 14" Dlask barrel on it, but the bead is far too short. I've been sitting on the fence about drilling and tapping the receiver for an optic (I'd really prefer not to.).

Honestly, I just wanted to try it out.
Theory being that I always use an optic with a QD mount and if it ever goes down, I can use the channel of the top rail as a rudimentary back up rear sight in conjunction with a front sight post.
When using the dot, it sits just above the front sight, with a picatinny rail + Aimpoint LRP mount it is tall. I may end up getting a CROM or something absolute cowitness with a proper rear ghost ring. We'll see.

It has worked pretty well for quick shots in my limited experience testing it. I should also mention that I primarily use a red dot and only rely on the back up sights as a last resort and likely won't need them for 99% of the time.

Is it soldered on the barrel?
