Rem 700 long action firing pin compression tool

Greetings,

I see lots of videos and tools available on removing the firing pin spring from a 700 short action but cant find anything on long action (specifically a tool). Am I missing something here?

Never used a tool, bootlace works.

That just removes the firing pin assembly, I believe he's talking about removing the spring from the assembly.

I used a short piece of aluminum arrow shaft about 5/16' in diameter about 3/4'' long... remove the firing pin assembly from the bolt body, drop the tubing into the bolt body, screw the assembly back into the body and the firing pin will protrude out of the bolt shroud and the firing pin retaining pin can be removed allowing the cocking piece to be removed and the bolt shroud leaving the spring loose on the firing pin.

I made mine for about 2 bucks, or whatever a bolt, 2 nuts, a piece of pipe and a wingnut costs. Sized it so it it works on short and long action Rems. It was so easy I made 2 in about 1/2 hour.
