Toying with the idea of doing a build (in the future when I pay down some debt) .
This is my donor rifle (or victim depending on how die hard a Remington fan you are) a mint 700 CDL DM in 30-06 from the early 90’s.

Decided on the following additions:
-26” carbon fibre barrel make undetermined in 35 Whelen
-Badger bolt knob
-Timney Calvin elite trigger
- Glass bedded
-vintage Leupold Vari III in 2.5-10

One question I have is will the factory mag still be fine? I would assume since it’s a 30-06 based cartridgeIMG_2899.jpeg

If you’re looking for opinions… I wouldn’t waste my time with a carbon fibre barrel on any rifle, nvm that one. You’d have to measure your barrel channel, but a lighter barrel may have too much space around it for your liking, but you’ll probably have to open it up for a carbon wrapped barrel. You could also get the gunsmith to cut your new (steel) barrel with the same profile as your current barrel if that’s easier too.

Gentlemen… my finger slipped lol I was going to go 24” not 26”. But honest I think some of yall convinced me I’m going to honestly either rebarrel in 35 Whalen in 24” blued steel not carbon fibre and keep the rest as Remington built her (still with the trigger upgrade though)

The 35 Whelen is not a target chambering, pure hunting and that older Walker trigger will work fine. I wouldn't replace it, but a tune up won't hurt.

I’d sell that piece of Junk and start from scratch 😁
While that 700 is far from a piece of junk, there is something to be said about selling that donor and buying a factory rifle in 35W. Be cheaper, easier and worth more in the end.

There are 700 Classics and Rugers out there from time to time.
