Sig P226 Mods

Looking to do some mods to my P226 and wanted to get any feedback, good, bad, or other, from shooters who have already mod'ed their P-Series. Thinking of getting into USPSA/IPSC/IDPA.

Specifically looking at Armory Craft:
Extended Mag Release
Ultimate Master Spring Tuning

Any other recommendations for grips or upgrades?

Make sure you check the rules before you modify your 226. Apart from the springs, the other mods might push you out of Production. It's been a while since I shot IDPA, but I'm not sure SSP allows extended mag releases. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you have stock sights? I never loved the Sig stock sights - you can change those and still be compliant with most rule books.
 
I’m running a fairly modded P226R (DA/SA) for IDPA (since the P320 ban).

Managed to find a Pro-Cut slide so I could run an SRO. Using a Sig Short Reset Trigger kit along with an Armory Craft adjustable flat trigger. Also did the Armory Craft trigger and hammer springs, but be careful and test it well, because I started getting light primer strikes, and ended up going to a hammer spring that was only slightly lighter than the OEM spring. I tried the extended magazine release but it was getting in the way of the decocking lever and I didn’t want to start grinding parts, so I went back to OEM. Put Lok Grips on it. Best grips available in my opinion. Wish they did them in brass for the P226, but even these aluminum ones are far superior to any of the OEM Sig grip options. Last but not least, I took a tungsten guide rod from a P320 and cut it to fit the 226 (that took allot of dremel cut off wheels :) ) and paired it with an Armory Craft recoil spring kit dialed in for 147gr loaded at approx 128pf.

Still like my modded P320 better, but this isn’t too shabby.

I went a similar but different way than the sapper here.

Basically my P226 stainless has the Grayguns catalogue thrown at it. Currently, it is configured with the Grayguns ELS (hybrid trigger), SRT, hammer strut+spring. I also have the flat trigger but didn't like it as much as the hybrid for trigger reach primarily (I'm fine with either shape but the flat trigger has a shorter reach and machined more than the hybrid).

Other things include Hogue G10 grips (both piranha and chain-link versions). The 9mm slide has custom guide rod + spring and some nice sights. The .22LR has factory adjustable sights. Both configurations function great.

Does the ELS trigger change the reach of the trigger in DA or does it have the same reach as the factory trigger?
 
Optic - If you want to run an optic (you do) id go with the pro-cut slide and a springer precision RMR plate (they ship to canada). Not cheap, but you get to keep your original slide in factory condition.

Grips - the lok gridloks are by far the best for competition. Ive tried many over the years… nothing else is even close.

Trigger - everything from armorycraft is solid (they also ship to canada).

Re: ELS - No, the system does not change the trigger reach in itself. However, the choice of trigger shoe will have different reach in both DA&SA between the variants offered. [ie Flat = shortest reach DA/SA, Curved = long reach DA/SA, Hybrid = ~same SA reach but slightly shorter DA reach in comparison to the curved style. Personally I find the flat trigger too short in SA, and also do not like the original Sig Short Trigger. The hybrid is better suited for my hand.]

The key to the ELS is the redesigned trigger bar and pivot points of the trigger shoe for a smoother DA ramping. The SA feel is pretty much the same if one had a standard trigger bar with SRT. Note: the trigger shoes from the ELS are not interchangeable with the other trigger shoes (even from Grayguns) because the pivot point holes are different.
