Hello everyone!

I have a Ruger American in .17HMR, I'm thinking about seeing if I can trade it for a Savage 93R17. I love my Ruger, don't get me wrong, I i really like the R17 just a little more with the heavier barrel. I'm thinking about getting into shooting longer distances and would rather the heavier barrel. I only have about 60 or 70 rounds down the pipe on my Ruger. Do you guys think it would be a good trade? I wouldn't even mind a bit of a higher round count on the savage, just looking for ideas. If money would permit, I'd just buy one, but sadly, not at this time.

Thanks!

I had a 17 HMR CZ 455; it really shot with good ammo. However, I was not getting clean kills on ground hogs out to 150 yards and beyond all the time. I got rid of it, and bought one of the last new Zastava M70s in 6.5 x 55. I don't miss the .17.

Yes I think savage and Ruger are about the same quality and accuracy wise…
I’d feel good about a straight across trade if it was more to my preference…
As long as you temper any accuracy expectations you may have

There are Ruger American Stainless/Synthetic heavy barrel 17hmr rifles in stock at Cranbrook, Canadian Tire. They also have the Ruger American in the black/grey laminate heavy barrel models in 17 hmr.

Is your current 17hmr not a heavy barrel model?

I own several Savage 93 series rimfire magnum rifles, they are extremely accurate and fun to shoot.....:)

You could just sell your Ruger, and buy want you want once it's sold.;)

sadly, it is not a heavy barrel. if it were i wouldn't even think of trading it, also, i hate the thought of selling a gun. maybe i'll just wait.
