Agreed on the Wingmaster. I change out my barrel on my 1976 870 Wingmaster to the short barrel. I like 00buck.

I'll stick with me Win 1400 with 19", cyl bore barrel. It be me best handling shotgun for getting on target fast.
The tritium front sight, combined ghost ring rear be excellent fer me eyes in low light conditions.

I prefer a space cowboy lever in 44mag or 4570 can be loaded from mild to wild.
44 mag is my go to around the farm. Oh and it definitely needs a light.

We have a Mossberg 88 20" with a mini shell adapter..got the wife more inclined to use it with the lower recoil. The Federal #4 buck is a great close range load but we take slugs too. Whatever you pick make sure to do some practice. Defensive gun handling has to be a bit intuitive to be successful.

One of DA shorties, first batches when they were 870 clones. Pick a barrel of your choice 8", 14" or custom, pick box mag or tube fed. My fav is box mag with 8.5" barrel. Super reliable, built like tank. Optionally shorten (and lighten) it with a aftermarket stock, forgot the brand, popular with aftermarket grips...

Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol. Super light, cycles everything and ###y as hell.

My Winchester 1897, two barrel set, from 1901. The short barrel rolled marked CYL is my choice.

I prefer rifles for their superior loading and extraction compared to a pump 12 gauge.

Plus it can shoot 2.5" .410 shells in a pinch.

Pumps need lots of practice to avoid short stroking when under stress.

I prefer a CRF bolt rifle with good iron sights over pumps, levers and semiautos. For close in against things that can hurt you.

870 Marine Magnum. No worries about condensation, corrosion or maintainence of the outer surface. Carry an assortment of shells and you've got everything. At least used to be build to Police standards and it's legal in a vehicle everywhere in Canada that I know of, if kept in a case. Do not pull it out in national parks.

Used to keep a M44 as a Jeep/Camping piece when they were cheap and disposable. Quick to load, taped on flashlight and worked in the cold.

These days, LPVO Tikkr 308 Ranch. Quick to load, mounted light now and works in the cold.

Capstick is largely viewed as a joke by the working PHs that I have spoken to.

Mine is a standard Wingmaster with a 16" barrel that we keep by the door at the cottage.
