Top folding stocks

If you put a Knoxx stock on a 14" barreled 870 does it become restricted?

I really like that look but I don't want to deal with having a restricted shotgun.

If your talking a folder then yes it would. On a 18" barrel no.

I don't get this. A 14" barrel / pistol grip or full stock is not restricted but a 14" folder is? Why?

The overall length of the shotgun cannot be less then 660mm. So you take these 12" and 14" barrelled shotguns with their factory stock they meet the overall length requirement. Once you remove the factory stock and put a folder stock you have now altered the shotgun below the 660mm (when its folded).

Hi, I have a question. If I put a Knoxx SpecOps Folder on my 870, can I shoot slug the way I used to shoot with my old factory buttstock? Can I put my cheek on the folding stock to utilize the rifle sights?

Thanks.

If you put any stock on that makes the shotgun shorter than the 660 cm by folding , telescoping or cutting, you make a PROHIBITED firearm , not a restricted one. We won't get into the Shorter than 660cm with a combination of factory parts because that is in the courts , I believe, so is not decided yet. They only become restricted by the Government /CFC if they are short(under the 660cm) from the factory, when they are being assigned their CFC number. This is probably why the Grizzilys came in with short barrels but over 660cm and the pistol grip was not included/attached. It comes in non-restricted, then depending on the outcome of the court case you can maybe use it legally with the pistol grip.

I see how you may be a little mixed up. Especially with your measuring! Millimetres, not centimetres! :D

Criminal Code:

restricted firearm"
«arme à feu à autorisation restreinte »
"restricted firearm" means
(a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
(b) a firearm that
(i) is not a prohibited firearm,
(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
(c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
(d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm;

This is exactly what we are talking about, a folding stock which would reduce the OAL under 660mm.

Criminal Code:

prohibited firearm (I just took the relevant part)

(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

This isn't talking about adding a telescoping or folding stock.
