Meopta scopes

I am a very active member in AGN airgun forum, and they're optics section is very educational. The US folks way ahead of info vs here in CGN

I put a optika 5 2-10x42 on it then I purchased from a store a couple months ago and the recoil screwed it up.It would not focus anything any more. I sent it back to the store as per their request Hopefully, they could do something for me. I think they said they're gonna refund my money. So that's why i'm hesitant now. Im putting it on a tikka t3x 338 win mag

The Czech Meopta optics is very good, and they are generally priced under what they should be.
I am seeing these scopes available in Canada in decent number of stores. That could be a store issue if they cannot replace it in short time.

Happened to me 5-6 years ago with an other Brand distributor. The stores usually waiting several weeks to collect all the stuff and sending back to a distributor, and then again those guys waiting several weeks or months to collect all that sending back to manufacturer. That is a biggest BS.
I was waiting for my SigSauer red dot magnifier combo for seven months.... I could walk there to Oregon and back on my foot within that time. So I ended up pressing them for refund.

I had another case. I bought a returned scope with issues (like your scope for example), from a store, for a great discount lets call it for $ peanuts. And me myself sent it to a manufacturer in UK for service (lifetime warranty). When my package arrived there I sent them email if I could upgrade and they accept it. So I ended up with a BNIB scope that costs about 700 Bpounds and my total cost was on it like $150.

Just saying, that there are options ....

Did you make a bedding for a picatinny rail (with recoil lug)? This what I made diy for my W308 when I replaced the rail for a new scope.

Never again. Had one that lost its purge, fogged internally. That can happen on a scope, not the end of the world. Except that warranty service wasn't available here. Followed a chain of contacts to one with the main company in Czech, said it would be $600+ Euro to ship and repair.
Told me I should just buy a new one and sent their newest catalog. No warranty, no thanks. I'll buy North American, or reputable, warranty included Euro brands. Nice scope, except for the fog thing.

waiting on the new R5 to come in (I bought one). I think the optikas was made in China

~600$ for a 3-15 new.. Czech manufacture again.

600$ doesn’t get you anything in that price range really. A diamond back HP maybe which are , due to personal experience (my buddy had one that cost him a deer) dog **** trash.

Ill let you know

Unfortunate to hear

I guess a somewhat positive warranty story is my 12x50 HD’s had a lens get cracked from a huge fall. It was 250$ usd and shipping there 80$ usd … seemed fair they did a great job fixing it up.

I think there is a Canadian distribution for Meopta and another email to ask about warranty. I’m right now inquiring about getting my 10x42’s serviced as I’ve been using them for 6 years hard out west here. Seems to be direct to Czech Republic. Will let know how it goes

The whole ‘no fault warranty’ has appeals sometimes. I do have 2 vortex riflescopes… I’ve now owned 3 Razor’s only ever bought one.. lol

Used to own a Gen 1 Razor spotter which was alright but had to warrenty it. They sent me a brand new Gen 2 and it was truly awful. Now I own a Meopta S2 and it’s truly exceptional ..

I bought two Meopta scopes. One was a spotting scope, the "spyglass" type, where you pull the rear sections back to focus.

The seals failed after about three years, and moisture got into the body.

I sent the scope directly to the factory, and after a six month wait, the scope came back, NOT REPAIRED, because they no longer made the model.

So much for their "lifetime guarantee."

I was "gifted" a new Meopta Artemis, 4X, and it failed during the first six months after the Christmas I received it.

The internal adjustments just quit working.

The scope was mounted on a Remington 700, chambered for the 6.5x55 swede. The handloads weren't hot.

I sent that scope back to the distributor, with the bill of sale. Nada. Never saw it again.

All of this happened during the late 1990s.

The scopes were crystal clear at first and functioned as they should have.

These experiences left a bad taste in my mouth, and I've never looked at another Meopta.

OP, look very carefully into their customer service policy, and guarantee, before purchasing.

what can I say, I have quite a few older and newer Meoptas and they never needed service (like 30-06 class recoil and thousands of rounds).
but indeed, I wouldn't know where to send them for service should they require it.

I stick with the Meostar top of the line models. It seems to me that every good scope making company starts with an exceptional top line of models that are bombproof with amazing glass etc. of course they’re pricy. So eventually they start making cheaper models and these get bean counter cheaper until they start to fail.
But their flagship line remains the excellent reliable scopes they have always been since day 1. Which for Meopta is the Meostars and the Mil spec ZD models for actual tactical operators meaning expensive.

Even Leupold got the idea in their heads that lighter was the ticket. Now they have issues with some of their top models failing. Give me a gloss Vari-XIII 3.5-10x40AO in quick detach mounts and I know it’s never going to fail in my lifetime. The detach mounts are only there in case I have to pound in a few nails to hang some Use Respect hunting signs on gate posts to fields and I forgot my hammer. Then click the scope back into the mounts and go hunting.

My Meopta ZD is a little older model with a skookum steel tube that not even a grunt could hurt housing some amazing glass and optical precision with MIL/MIL matching turrets/reticle and 0.05 MIL per click instead of the courser 0.1 MIL per click. Yes, I am a Meostar & ZD fanboy.

I have a meopta R5 meohunter. Nice scope so far. No issues. Have only had it for a few hundred rounds of centerfire and maybe 10 months now. Optically I would say it punches well above its price range.

North Silva said the R5/R6 line are made in China?
I thought the Optika line was the last budget Czech made scope?

I thought I read production returned the Czech but not sure if that’s true

Got my R5 3-15.. glass seems to hit above its weight class for sure

If you guys are looking to put together a onetime dedicated hunting rifle for example, you know, the one unit that you always reach for come that time of year. I really recommend the top shelf Meostars if only for their amazing low light glass. No need over paying for another European brand name.

I bought 2 Meopta R5 (Czech made) recently for a PCP FX Crown and also a rimfire. So far, so good but neither platform is stressing the optics. Reason I bought Meopta was a scope to scope side by side comparison involving a Meostar, vs Leopold vs Nightforce and some other piece of garbage that I can’t remember. The clarity and brightness of the Meostar at dusk blew everything else out if the water. But now with them going to China they have fallen from grace in my books and now Im a bit concerned about the R5 scopes and their warranties….

I have no idea what they’re thinking having the name China associated with their brand. When companies choose China we all know that it’s either a new owner ‘group’ looking to maximize on a company’s good/trusted name before the consumers catch on then the group will sell and on to their next victim’s name to profit from then trash and so on…
Hell, I don’t even buy noodles made in China anymore. And a little off topic, now we have Liberals totally in bed with the CCP and not even closing the curtains. I wonder how to say “elbows up” in Mandarin?

It should say on the scope or box where it was manufactured.

Is a bit of a shame they are in China now.. Got the 3-15 China R5 mounted and it’s like quite nice. Very nice eye box.. lots of eye relief and very clear glass. Turrets extremely crisp clicks, good redicle. Comes with screw in aluminum scope caps.

Glass seems better than my Viper 6.5-20 instantly. will have it beside the razor 3-15 next week…

No way this scope is getting sold for 6-700$ CAD if it wasn’t made in China unfortunately… I think the optics game is a shrinking pool these days …
