Convince me to get a different .308. Currently looking at the Super Varmint .308 in green camo. Any other recommendations. I’ll be using it for range / practicing shots and hunting deer / black bear. Props to anyone who can recommend a good scope.

I am a Tikka guy through and through, have owned T3X Lite, Varmint, CTR, T1X, T3X A1 Tactical, and the older T3 Tactical, and have built a couple customs on Tikka actions. They are a dam fine rifle/action to work with and I have never had a factory Tikka disappoint me.

I recently bought a Springfield Waypoint 2020 in 6.5CM, has a fluted barrel, AG Composites carbon stock, Trigger Tech Trigger, and accepts AICS magazines. It is considerably lighter than a T3X Varmint too. I haven't shot it yet, but the barrel has been cleaned, scope mounted and bore sighted, and several different factory ammo offerings have been assembled and ready to break in and sight in. I am not going to suggest it will be as accurate as my Tikkas, but the reading I have done and videos I watched suggested it is similar, and lighter, and can be had for a similar investment. Just a thought.

I have a T3x Varmint in 223. I'll never hunt with that rifle given the weight. Also have a T3 Hunter 223.

I suggest you just buy a T3x sporter for hunting. You'll be happier with that.

Gonna be a pig to carry around and shoot offhand. If you want something with a heavier barrel than a hunting contour but a bit lighter, take a look at a CTR.

3 or 4 seasons ago, I took a Rem 700P 26” HB .308Win into the field for Moose. Weighing in at a scant 11.2lbs with a Vortex HST up top, I questioned my sanity every moment I was holding on to it. Great when I had it set up on a bipod over a wide area, getting to that point not so much.

At least I can say it’s been done (by myself). I may attempt it again as I’ve ditched the HST in favour of a simple Bushy 10x saving a whopping 2+ ounces! But I highly doubt it 😁

As someone who’s obviously been there and done that, just don’t.. It’s not worth the hassle, even if you have access to a wide open area, the added weight/length is a PIA. A Regular T3x in 308 will bode you much better for what you require, especially given the 308s long barrel life.

I really think the tikka CTR is the way to go and if I could recommend an optic id say one of the new Leupold mark 4 2.5-10x42 either pr1 ffp or sfp TMR reticle would be a pretty slick package for hunting and a bit of range shooting

I own 2 Tikka T3x varmint in 223 and 243, they are really heavy with that long thick barrel.

My other Tikka a UPR in 6.5 Creedmoor, is very different, light and handy, and is as accurate as the other two.
