30-06

And the 9.3x62 is the best variant.

That's can be improved again by going up to .366.

I think you both meant to say 9.3x62.
No but I would Certainly go 9.3 x 62 over 35 cal . Buddies are going Africa in May and I think 3 of them are gonna pack 9.3x62 s loaded with Nosler Partitions I believe šŸ‘

Yes, the 9.3x62 is not a 06 variant.
The 30-06 comes from the 30-03, which was made and designed around the 7x57 Mauser and its success. The 9.3x62 is derived from the 8x57, which came from the 7x57. I did not say it was made from the 30-06, that's why I quoted the 7x57, and stated the 9.3x62 is the best of the bunch.

The 9.3x62 came out before the 30-06. It is not a coincidence that the 30-06 is almost exactly a necked down 9.3x62 case. Most of the high pressure, successful cartridges if that time were all stealing one another's ideas and Designs and using the same case, or basically the same case.

There are very few truly Unique cartridges not using a parent case in some way that were successful. And it makes sense, it's much easier to use a existing case and change its dimensions and test it.

Most if not all literatures agrees that the 9.3x62 is its own case, but also mentions that Otto Bock design was influenced by the 7x57 mauser but not derived from that case! I guess we will never know cause the guy’s dead I think….

The 9.3 has a different case head measurements than the 8x57 . I think you're confusing the fact that Otto designed the 9.3 to fit the 8x57 mauser action length not based on the cartridge itself. While the 9.3 has no actual parent case in years past when brass was harder to find die hard 9.3 handloaders were adapting 30-06 cases to fit, but brass life was terrible as its not a perfect match.. while Otto didn't just blow out a 8x57 case to create the 9.3 the fact that in those days there were few rimless bottleneck cartridges any new one brought to market would have similarity to exsiting brass designs.

Some of my brass I use for my 9.3x62 are reformed
30-06 brass and they seem to last ok, better than the Hornady 9.3 brass lol.

I personally don’t hunt yet and thus would be better served by many other cartridges but was drawn to the history, longevity and versatility of the 30-06. So I own a couple one in a chassis and one setup for a hunting rig for when I do get around to trying that.

I had been giving some thought of late to adding another ā€˜06 into the fray. A 24ā€ braked version might be the ticket.

Between my son and I, we have a multitude of rifles chambered in various cartridges, ranging from the 240 Weatherby to the 9.3x74R. What I grabbed from the safe was the good ole "turdy-aught-six." Both bucks this year fell with one shot from this great cartridge, utilizing the 125 grain Nosler Accubond, the epitome of versatility.
