Campro Bullets .44 240gr FCP TC CP-44240

Good to know. I've been blinking with 240gr xtp. Just thinking the campros would be alot cheaper if they shot well. I cant see myself ever really hunting with the 44mag but I have the xtps if I do

I use the .458 405gr ones in my 45/70. They are not a hunting bullet, plated, dont expand at all. They shoot well for my rifle and are fun and economical.
Just grabbed a bunch of these to try out - any good advice on powder? Its nice of campro to include some loading data online but real world advice is always helpful!

I auditioned them in a large 44mag discovery session I did as part of my Spring 2025 bear hunting video project (check out Brobee223 on YouTube).

They were very accurate in a variety of my 44 mag rifles (ramshot enforcer) holding together very well at rifle velocities with no jacket stripping, and at close range their terminal characteristics were a bit surprising and leaving me wanting to explore more. Might do that in the .357 mag department this year…;)

So, I like them for a lot of reasons beyond what initially attracted me to them - their awesome price.

Cheers,

Brobee

For 45-70 IMR-4198, trail boss, and AA5744 are your friends.

My plinking load is 12grain of IMR-4198, or 29gn for velocity. These are straight from the hodgdon website, you should do the same it's plenty "real world."

12grain load was hilarious because I swear I could see the ball of lead chugging down the 100m range real slow. And then I foolishly shot a steel target at 50m, didn't even swing the target but just destroyed the foam mounting block and the steel dropped straight to the grounds.

Helpful, thanks, certainly have plenty of manuals but am newer to loading 45-70 and so the powder choices can be a lot!

That 12 grain story is great, I will certainly experiment. Already pleased that I added a 45-70 rifle to the safe!

Anyone use these for plinking or hunting? Just wondering how they shoot and if they expand or come apart?
These were very accurate over near max H110 in my Ruger semi carbine. Not sure about expansion but I would think it would punch through a deer with minimal deformation unless it hits heavy bone.

I checked the Hodgson website and they don't list IMR 4198 at 12 gr anywhere I can find. This seems like a very low charge.

My lyman manual lists 31.5 gr as a starting trapdoor load. Hodgson is 30gr.

Where did you find 12 gr starting load from?

You're right I 100% meant to say 12-13gn trail boss.
