Does anybody know the difference between a 9mm and 45 frame in the 1911? Is the frame ramp area milled differently. I am looking for information to be able to tell the difference between the two frames if any.

This would be for an un-ramped barrel frame.

Thanks

The unramped basic frames are the same. I have built many on just about every frame made Colt, Brown, STI, Sam, Norinco, Nowlin, Caspian all made good builds and interchanged.

I converted a norinco 1911 commander 45 acp to 9mm simply by swapping the ejector a fitting a new 9mm upper. The ejector is simply pinned and I can swap uppers at the range

Looks like someone had at it on that one frame . Besides a unramped 9mm wouldn't be my choice just a side note
Dlask made a ton of 9mm and they are on unramped frames. Mine already had a few thousands rounds. Never had an issue but I wouldn’t shoot 9mm major.
It is true that most 1911/2011 nowadays use ramps but it’s not required
