Seems like there have been quite a few nice enfields for sale lately on the EE. Is there a secret squirrel stash of nice long branches and other #4's been dug up someplace?

Lots out there, but the challenge is to find really nice examples. I actually got my most recent Longbranch, a '49, from the U.S.!

Cheers

I'm going to school down south right now, and every time I look at the U.S. traders, go to gunshows and cabelas, it makes me cry. Nice No.4's for 200-300 bucks. The savage ones command a premium down here, but they can't give away Longbranches. I've seen a few of the greek LB's, still greased with LB hangtags for around $300:eek:

Yes Ollie, the reverse is tru up here as you know. Many late contract Savage's ended up here and can be fairly easy to find still in grease or at least un-issued condition. I have a '43 un-issued Savage which is very nice. Rest of my No.4's are LB's. Fortunately we still have access to clean LB's and others up here if you really look. Seems most of the Enfields coming into the states these days are in pretty tough condition, but hey, better than nothing.

The timing couldn't have been better for me. After losing my "US Property" Savage No.4 Mk.I* in a house fire just before Xmas, I managed to grab a very nice Longbranch specimen on EE to replace it.

I realize I am replying to an 18 year old post, but perhaps I'll be fortunate to receive a reply.
When you said "lots out there", where would one typically find a reasonable collection in one stop?
Thank you
