Husqvarna 9.3x62 M98 dovetail base ???

*Posting for anyone who has a similar question *

After some measurements, the cut into the reciever is a unique European style, and doesn't conform to anything easily available on the market. The dovetail measures 11.6mm at the narrowest, and ~14mm at widest. From base to apex, approx 3.8mm. Not exactly gunsmith tools, but you get the idea. There are companies out there that make bases which would fit, but require gunsmithing to grind into the right fit. Frankly not worth the cost. Unfortunately there's only 22mm of reciever unmolested to work with for a more conventional base. Typical weaver mounts look to need about that much between holes, leaving not enough mental. I could bridge that gap if I want to get creative. Leupold makes some 2pc M98 bases that clear the charger hump, and I could slide the base so that one hole is on one side of the gap, one on another.

Worst comes to worst, sidemount is a potential option
Maybe just fill that dovetail with a contoured blank and then braze it into place before having the ring drilled and tapped for regular Mauser M98 weaver mounts.

That would be my suggestion for the cheapest and easiest solution to have your rifle scoped again.

After all those old and well used imported rifles are very cheap to buy and not worth spending too much money on.

Definitely the best option price wise and really if the job is well done and after you mount a scope on it it won’t be noticeable… especially not from my place…

Unfortunately, standard dovetail blanks sold for firearms don't match this by a wide margin. I've tried seeing if there are larger ones, but I haven't been able to find anything. I don't have to tools to make one myself either. If you know of any that would roughly fit the dimensions in my earlier post though, I'd be happy to take a look

Get yourself a file set and price of steel and make yourself a dovetail blank to fit .There is a seller on here who as quite a variety of these mounts and bases I think he goes by GGuthrie not quite sure but you should find him in the parts for optics and sites section .Hope this helpes

Riversrest is correct ✅

Its possible from Schwenkmontage ring mounts... or, someone machined out for a Dovetail Rear Sight - at that location on top of the front receiver ring, vice on the rear of the barrel ...

Pay a gunsmith who drills and taps the receiver a little extra to make a simple steel dovetail filling blank first before he installs the mounts.

Maybe you pay twice the cost but it will still be your cheapest option.

If you check the measurements, I could try to make you one. I have some 5/8" scrap steel lathe toolholders that I could sacrifice. The three measurements are the width at the bottom of the dovetail and at the throat (lengththwise with the rifle) and dovetail height at the apex of the ring radius, as well as the length of the flat part of the dovetail (crosswise to the rifle).

To measure the height at the apex, slide a in a rectangular piece of plastic into the dovetail, perpendicular to the bottom, and put it up against the throat of the dovetail. Trace the arc of the ring with a thin sharpie (or better yet - scribe with an exacto knife) onto the plastic. Measure from the bottom of the plastic to the inner edge of the scribed line at the apex of the radius.

Feel free to PM me. Cost: a beer if we ever meet plus shipping AB to SK.

Now that is a mighty kind offer

Np. I'm kinda looking for some projects. Her Majesty the Minister of Everything and Ultimate Veto Thereover has been making noise recently about my machine tools taking up room in the garage.

Actually, I just thought of something. I have a chunk of 1.75" round stock (mild steel). If you measure the diameter of the front receiver ring, I could turn it down to a CH above this and then cut the dovetail. It would save you having to radius it down afterwards.
