Hi all,

I am starting the search for two specific Long Branch No. 4 rifles for my collection. I have no time limit and want to search for as mint examples of each as I can find, and would just like an idea of the sort of price I can expect to pay for each. I realize that the search will be arduous as examples are few, but that is half the fun for me. In each case, I want to find rifles with full military furniture, matching bolt and receiver serial numbers, as low-numbered bolt heads as possible, and in as pristine condition as possible regarding bore, metal, and wood conditions.

1. Long Branch No. 4 Mk. 1 no star-the early production rifles before the change to the Mk. 1*.
2. Long Branch DCRA conversion with PH5C sights, in either .303BR or .308/7.62.

I don't mean to sound flippant as I know that these are high marks to aim for, but these will probably be my last two rifles as I am 73 and want to end well. This is the start of the process, so I posted here rather than the WTB forum as I am not quite yet ready to buy.

$12,000.00-$16,000.00 would be my guess. They're out there, but you'll have to pay up to wrestle them from the owners.
 
I would pay big bucks for a Mk I (no-star) LB but it would have to be all original—period. A DCRA converted rifle would be worth far less. Lots of these change hands at auction and my guess would be $2000 to $2500 for a good one.

I can’t speak to DCRA prices, never paid attention to those, but the LB No. 4 Mk. 1s I have seen for sale have been anywhere from 2k-6k over the years. Condition has varied and they tend to sell quickly so take from that what you will.
 
finding a Mk1 longbranch is going to be hard, and one that has not been molested is not going to be easy.

I think I have one but it was sporterized, finding all the correct parts is something I have halfhearted been doing, I do have a button style coking piece and the original style safety but finding the appropriate forestock is a bit of a problem.
 
An original, intact, superior condition, not restored Mk. I is a very rare rifle.
.303 rifles set up for DCRA/PRA competition are not particularly uncommon. Ones in 7.62x51 which have not been modified are less so.

I see DCRA rifles at gunshows quite regularly, unless there is something very special about them, under $2k

No4 MkI, with button cocking piece, in EX condition, inside and out, $1500-$2000, unless it's something special, like a presentation piece.

T rifles will fetch those prices, otherwise you're shopping in the wrong place
