It's BACK: The Perfect Backpacker

legal for hunting in BC?
No, it's not as c-d stated, 12" minimum. However, the barrel needs to be 305 mm minimum in BC which would translate to 12.0079 inch.

Now, I wouldn't know if they could ding you on those 0.0079 Inches...

They typically measure with a rod down the bore against the bolt face so it's quite possible that the rim of the shell (headspace) will help it clear 305mm... that said a 12.5 " barrel would suit me just fine!

:)

Does this shotgun have a transfer bar? Can it be carried with the hammer down on a loaded chamber?
I haven't seen it but I think it might have a re-bounding hammer.

It should be safe to carry loaded, hammer down, c o c k the hammer then pull the trigger to shoot....

Thanks for the reply. It would be a much more useful firearm if you can carry it loaded with the hammer down!

That's been pretty standard for single shot break action shotguns for a long time, I do have a rossi that has a transfer bar but many use a rebounding hammer and trigger that blocks the last part of the hammer's travel.

In the "rebounded" position the hammer can't go forward unless the trigger is held to the rear. A spring keeps the hammer in the safe position. When the hammer is c o c k e d back far enough to create enough inertia to overcome the spring, and the trigger is pulled and held to the rear, the hammer will then go forward with enough force to ignite the primer.

The old Cooey 84's are similar.

Trailhand

The Perfect Backpacker

The Trailhand 12GA single-shot was specifically designed for the Canadian market to feature a lightweight and compact design in a NON-RESTRICTED package. No sales to USA. The first shipment sold out within days, these aren't expected to last long either.

Weighing in at just 4.2lbs and only 22.5” in overall length, this shotgun is small enough to be carried in a pack, ATV Box, vehicle or anywhere space is limited. The barrel quickly and conveniently folds down against the action for stowage in bug-out bag or survival kit, with longest portion only 17" in length. The light weight and compact dimensions also makes the Trailhand a great compliment for smaller statured and beginner shooters when combined with 1.75” mini shells.

Unlike pistol grip only or mare’s leg stocks, the Trailhand stock is long enough to be shouldered. The barrel is rated for steel shot and is 9.8” in length, and includes interchangeable chokes and a chamber sized for 3” magnum.

The Trailhand features an external hammer and a beautiful walnut stock, well adorned with decorative checkering for a sturdy grip with gloves or in wet conditions. Optionally available with a stock shell carrier and a mini softcase, designed for when barrel is folded, for the most compact option.

Priced at just $229. Comes with manual and cylinder, modified and full chokes. Like all firearms imported by Tactical Imports, the Trailhand is backed with a full LIFETIME WARRANTY.

Trailhand Review by Canadian Caliber
These look awesome, thanks Tactical Imports for bringing them in. If you guys do expand on this line of single shots would it be possible for the manufacturer to add an optics rail on a future model? It seems like a lot of people including myself like the idea of using chamber adapters with this shotgun and a red dot or whatever optic of your choosing might help with being a little more precise.
Also wanted to throw out the idea of swappable pistol caliber barrels for the trailhand if possible (just would have to unscrew and remove the cross pin at the pivot point to swap them out).
Or standalone single shot rifles in this same compact format. I've seen a couple Turkey manufactured single shot rifles similar to this design being made already-

And Gforce arms

but again have the same compact nature of the trailhand and external hammer.

I don't know why they wouldn't copy the superior 84/840 actions, maybe cost. The patents, maybe ?

I think the front stud holds the forend on to the barrel but ya too bad there wasn't a rear stud installed from the factory aswell

Would be perfect if it has provision to attach optics, top pic rail option or even in vent rib would work. The comb height is bit high and recoil slams onto face due to short square stance. 12 inch barrel would also pack nicely too when folded plus much safer to shoot.
Also bring in sub cal adapters as purchase option.
I agree. A 12" barrel with a full length vent rib rail and front stock would be perfect.
Sometimes Short is too Short........

I added a slip on recoil reducing pad to my Trailhand. The smallest size is still slightly large for the small stock on the Trailhand, but it fits snugly enough. The bonus is that it adds slightly over an inch to the LOP which makes shouldering the Trailhand a little better. I added a couple of short pieces of self adhesive weather stripping to fill the small void at the heel of the stock. Stripping is stuck to the inside of the slip on pad, not the stock itself. Picked up on Amazon.

LOP is only 11". I added a slip on recoil pad to mine which adds just over 1" which makes this better to shoulder and helps mitigate the recoil from buck and slug loads

Thank you for this. That's exactly what I was thinking of doing to extend the LOP, I was hoping it was longer though.
