SKS Purchase, G4C vs. GPOST

These will be banned within 3 years is my prediction. Govt is trying to find a solution for all the First Nations who rely on their SKS for hunting. Once that is settled goodbye all Semi-autos

Likely a 'permanent exemption', cause the Libs aren't going to buy all xx thousand a new rifle. Not worth it to spend $$$ for xx thou votes.

Further, there are NOT very many SKSs remaining (at least at 'sponsor/vendors') "in the wild" and pricing is at least the $799-ish like G4C has. Tenda has been 'out' for over a couple months now and they were at $600+ish then. I'd sell my FT with only 500-ish shots for close to that - they're listing about that on GPO around me. And I have a Tapco set-up to go with for 'a few buck more'. Might get on EE soon for those prices

I don't follow SKS stock religiously, but it is telling that there is a lot less available out there, like you said. My suspicion is retailers are weary of being stuck holding rifles they can't sell in the event of another ban, so they are less likely to import large amounts of these, dwindling the overall availability. Just a theory.

Prices are definitely going up. Was on Marstar last night. SKS are listed over $1000. Last one I bought was $250 and now $700-$800 seems the going price.
1000 bones for an sks?
Holy fack that is insane
I wonder what a non refurbed Russian one is worth now as the ones Marstar have are prob just run of the mill ones
The guys who bought crates of them back in the day are set for retirement lol

G4C is good to go. I would hold out for either a good Russian, or a ChiCom military SKS if I were you though. I don't understand the fascination with the plastic French Tickler handguards.

IMO it's just that they are 'UN-issued', so just a hair better ? I bought mine 2-years ago and the bore was like a mirror - but it still shoots like an SKS 😜 'Most' other Non-FT have been issued and fired, some a good bit. Like the diff in buying at a dealer or EE - if it's the same price, which would you choose?

Hi all,

I'm looking to finally drop on an SKS but am pretty stuck between two dealers, G4C has offered a "Chinese SKS Type 56 Surplus W-Spike Bayonet" French Tickler for $799 that once paid for I can see images of; another is one that is posted to GNPOST which is for $850 shipped, that has pictures and is willing to provide more. Does anyone have experience buying from G4C and do they recommend, or do you think the GNPOST option is a better deal considering you can see the actual rifle, also if GNPOST secure? The seller is listed as a dealer and I already looked up the store separately and they do exist. This will be my first foray into the crazy world of SKSs and I just want to make sure I get the most bang for buck considering they may one day be restricted.

You’ll have no issues with purchasing from either. The decision is ultimately yours. I don’t think it’ll make a big difference no matter what option you go with.

I was with a couple of friends a month ago on two separate occasions where each purchased an SKS from G4C. I handled the ones in their lock case. If you buy in person they'll let you have your pick. None of the Chinese FTs in their display case looked to be in bad shape. The main difference seemed to be that some of the stocks were in better condition than others. But the difference wasn't night and day. Some stocks also seemed a shade darker than others.

I've bought several guns from G4C and really enjoy shopping there. I once bought a MDT buffer tube that I opened up and attempted to install before realizing it was totally unfinished. None of the notches meant for positioning the stock existed! It somehow passed quality control. Went back to G4C and they took it back no question and gave me a replacement.

If I was you I'd find one on here for sale. you never know what way these are going to go. private sale.

As someone that lives in Manitoba and has dealt with this seller personally I have only good things to say about him top notch dealer and very honest about his products.
I second this, hermin8r is my local dealer and is a pleasure to do business with. Very small shop, doesn't have 1000's of guns stacked up like cordwood but always manages to have some cool stuff. I haven't looked up his ad for this gun to check, but all of his ads that I've seen list a price which includes tax and shipping, so the prices are very comparable between these two options.

To be fair, G4C is also a terrific dealer, I've bought several guns from them over the years and was always completely happy with the products and the service received.

Private sale? You never know what way those will go either.

Milsurp stuff like SKS's and others seem to be more likely than most other items to be bubba'd, butchered and battered when they come up on the EE. I just read another thread where a new SKS owner had done some "customization" on his SKS and now can't seem to get it to work correctly. Funny how drilling some random holes and replacing some gas-system parts with "low-speed-lotsa-drag" aftermarket tacticool stuff does that. Cheap milsurp guns...which the SKS was not that long ago...tend to encourage that sort of foolishness...followed by buyer's remorse...followed by a WTS ad on the EE.

I bought two guns from G4C within 6 months, no issue at all.

but if you are buying a mil surplus, it will be better if you are buying in-person.

I bought my SKS at a local store last year when the price was $600 tax incl even when I could order online at cheaper price + free shipping. I had to ask the store to give me 3 different guns before picking the best one

your guess is not better than anyone's guess in last 6 years but that won't stop people from buying a new SKS
