Stainless or blue steel

I like the look of Stainless however Les Baer no longer makes stainless frames and slides for some reason to do with carbon steel being better.

there's nothing that"eats" a blued gun quicker than a salt water environment- since stainless was unavailable at the time( they hadn't yet started to use it for gun making material because of the galling) the only 2 options were blue and nickel- at least as far as colt is concerned- parking is/was only available to a very few-or came on military/exmilitary( read us military) guns- i learned a long time ago that unless you keep a blued gun slightly "wet" in some environments it'll rust, no matter what you do- overnite, sometimes- so you clean and oil BEFORE you go to bed- that's the reason i've got a nickel- however, the sights are blued- blue/blackened sights are a pretty well got to have- the nickel.stainless will glare under certain conditions

Hawk are you sure about that? If so where did you hear that?:)

I think it was on m1911.org but I honestly can't remember. I checked the Les Baer website and they do sell stainless frames. I did some reading and carbon steel has less friction. The modern stainless alloys are supposed to be a lot better than the first stainless alloy used for guns.

Right, Les never stopped selling SS guns. The only thing though (you might have read it from me) is that he won't be selling SS guns with the 1.5" @ 50 yards guarantee....SS is too hard for the extra fitting required for that precision!:)
